A word from Cole's father...

Many of you are probably wondering why Mack Brown and the Unversity of Texas Football Team dedicated the 2001 football season to Cole Pittman.

I'm going to give you an opportunity to not only understand that reason, but also the reason why, as his Dad, I have dedicated the rest of my life to just keeping his memory alive.

I struggled mightily in the decision to post this and make it available for other people to hear.

My son was a very private person and I certainly would not want to do anything to betray his private nature. You will have an opportunity to hear Cole Pittman speak and even talk about some of you. An opportunity to hear me say some things about Cole. His high school coach, Coach Dunn, will also speak. You will also hear Mack Brown and Cole's pastor, Denny Duron.

Again, this is very personal and very private and the only reason that I'm doing this is that I fully believe that lives will be changed and relationships mended.

I'm going to put you on the front row of Cole's Memorial Service in Shreveport, Louisiana. Please treat it with reverence and respect as if you were there. Have your family sit with you as you listen to this and remember this is not about a death; this is about a life and living it as it should be lived.

One of the ways I have survived this horrible tragedy is through the letter and phone calls from so many wonderful people who have already been touched by this young man. If you are moved, touched, changed, if your relationship with your family has changed, if your relationship with your parents has changed, I would love to hear from you. It is what will keep me going until I'm once again united with my son.
