Life In The Minors
by Bill Schoening

We all know Bill Schoening as the "Voice of the Longhorns" -- one of the most talented play-by-play radio men in all of college sports. Here's your chance to hear another side of this great voice which belongs to a truly class guy. All of the proceeds go to charity -- another great reason to pick up this CD. Its only $10 plus $2 shipping/handling and another 8.25% to the Great State of Texas (if you are lucky enough to live here).

A word from Bill...

I started playing the guitar about five years ago...after a year or so I started writing some melodies and put lyrics to the tunes. The completed songs were only sung when I strummed the guitar around the house or when I was in the shower....I decided one day that I didn't want the songs to just waste away on pieces of paper in a drawer somewhere so I enlisted the help of Joe Gracey and Gabe Rhodes, who are both well respected producers and musicians. They helped me with the arrangement and instrumentation, and helped develop the overall sound of the CD. My good friend Jimmy LaFave, one of the top singer songwriters in Texas, agreed to sing backup on "Desolation Boardwalk" and that was one of the highlights for me.

There are three sports related songs on the CD, including the title cut...which is about a guy in his late '20s still hanging on to his fading dream of making the big leagues one day. "Why Drive" was inspired by a Longhorn poster from the mid '90s showing Kris Clack flying through the air for a slam dunk. Written with tongue firmly planted in cheek, "Better Than Bogey" is about the very modest goals I have for my golf game. The most personal song on the record is "My Dad's Day's" a look back at my late father.

All proceeds from the sale of the CDs will go to the Bill Teegins Memorial Scholarship Fund at Oklahoma State. Bill Teegins was a colleague and friend of mine and went down with nine others in that tragic plane crash on Jan. 27th.
