Per tweet by All Star Girls Report. Collier is a 6-4 Post and is only in 8th grade (class of 2018). ASGR has her ranked #1 in the class. Hook Em!

"Several college coaches were in disbelief that Collier hadn’t committed anywhere but as I pointed out she was only an eighth grader, she is in a position to go just about anywhere she wants. She has a college ready body and is still learning some things on both ends however she has already been labeled “BEAST” by myself and will be terrorizing teams near you and I don’t just throw labels out there." - Full Court

KVUE interviewed Charli and her parents about the commitment. Also, the article states that Duke, OU and Louisville have been recruiting her.

I know everyone does it, but recruiting an 8th grader is stupid. What does Texas do now when she blows out one knee in the 10th grade and the other in the 12th grade? Also, what are the odds that she every shows up on campus in 2018?

I get your concerns Viper. Texas doesn't need another Peyton Little fiasco.

Only the most negative posters could be upset with this good news. Whether a player verbally commits 4 years or 4 days prior to national signing day, there's always a chance of decommitment.

Congrats to the coaching staff for their hard work!

Moooooo you are the negative poster. Recruiting an 8th grader is not in the best interest of anyone including the student.

It is too difficult for some to understand that early verbals is the direction that the sport is slowly heading toward. As with Jackie Gemelos (UConn) and the player that verbaled to Baylor and recently decommitted, players do say that they have made a choice.Coaches are having to look at players and get in recruiting them earlier in order to not be left out as not showing enough interest. Is it really that unexpected that those recruits will start to commit at an earlier age?

There is some time for the players to reflect on their choice and change it if their reasons for early commitment changes. Coaching changes, choice of career, grades, continued improvement as a player and injuries among other factors, will impact whether both sides adhere to the player's commitment.

It is early for Charli to make a choice but since she did, I am happy that she chose Texas. Hopefully, through the next four years, she will continue to feel that her choice was the correct one. Meanwhile, welcome to Charlie and her family. [IMG]

Moooooo and Bab, let's all take a deep breath and acknowledge just because someone doesn't see things the same way you do does not mean they are negative.

I was a recruited athlete so I know what I am talking about. I was no more ready to commit in the 8th grade than I was in the first grade. That is just too early and has no upside for any party. If she is intent on going to Texas she will be just as excited after the 10th or 11th grade.

Viper, the school doesn't have to honor anything verbal just as the athlete does not. Usually with early verbals it depends on how involved the family is. With any athlete I've had go to college on scholarship I've seen it from all directions. There is no harm in this situation, because Texas won't be doing anything that we wouldn't normally do. We'd still heavily recruit her if she hadn't given the verbal, so what is the down side here?

Great write-ups on Collier. Patterson was also at the Texas summer camp last year. Good to hear that she and Richards will be playing summer AAU with Higgs.

Collier and Barbers Hill lose in regional semi-final. Charli with 21 points and 12 points:

Danley said Barbers Hill had plenty of good to look forward to this season. The Lady Eagles returned five seniors with lots of experience and added freshman phenom Charli Collier, a University of Texas pledge who had 21 points and 12 rebounds Friday.

Obviously there are two sides of this debate. No reason to get heated about it. Its not a matter of being positive or negative and it has nothing to do personally with this particular young lady. The NCAA has all kinds of detailed rules regarding recruiting. Limiting the time period for early commitments, or prohibiting schools from contacting athletes below high school age could be seen as a reasonable way of preserving some perspective and sanity for both the kids and the colleges. There's always an "arms race" in these situations: if one school is contacting promising junior high girls, then all the schools feel compelled to do it. It becomes a drain in time and cost for everybody, including the kids. Yes, schools can always decline to honor their offers later on, but there is also a lot of pressure not to do that because rivals can whisper in prospects' ears that can't trust school X because they broke their promise to player Y.

I don't have a problem with coaches offering kids in middle school at all. If the kid and family feel it's the right time to commit good for them. I always find it funny that some people have a problem with it in basketball. But we have a soccer player whose committed to Texas that was offered in middle school also two male golfers who are committed to Texas that were offered in middle school.
