NBHorn7... uhh, I think you hit a nerve with Senor Snek!

Senor Snek, I used the word "grow" but I intended no double-entendre... you, kind sir, obviously did!

Bennie Moten from 1928. Can you dig it?
Bob Wills opened many a show with his version of this song.
Moten's band hired a piano player, William "Count" Basie.
The song was popular on jukeboxes throughout the 30's and well into the 40's. Classis big band orchestra swing tune.

Gregory Isaacs, ya mon! The Cool Ruler, rest in peace. Somebody made their way to a Taco Bell and later some Dorito's, cake frosting and other snacks and goodies, I presume. I hope they had that tv studio ventilated.

Love Pat Metheny. He reminds me of my inadequacies as a guitarist but that’s ok. His solo in Slip Away is one of my favs.

I was listening to this group earlier this week and to mix it up a little bit, how about one of my favorites from the era, TOP - some Bay Area funk / jazz from the mid '70's.

    Anyone else dig these guys:

Soul Train on Saturday was a major part of my routine growing up. I watched it faithfully while most of my friends watched American Bandstand. WAR is a band I really like and admire so this is a double pleasure for me. Soul Train line dances are a favorite on youtube. Here's one bad *** one.

Since you are going toward Soul Train - how about a joint collaboration that was played (not near enough) in DFW on the radio in the summer of 1975 by Ramsey Lewis and Earth Wind & Fire.

So cool! Back when men actually danced rather than just rubbing their crotches on women.

That's not dancing, it's a form of assault but I know what you mean. It's amusing and gross at the same time and this comes from a dude.

Y'all are all funked up, ain't ya?! What say we head down the road a bit down yonder to Houston before it was H-Town or Screwston? Back when the locals just called it, "Ewston". Let's Tighten Up.

I understand that AB and the Drells used to play at parties in Austin before they hit it big... not sure if it is true.

Love this song... it will get you up and dancing or at least moving.

I agree, W-Man. It's an all time favorite of mine for sure. I was born in Houston and heard it a lot growing up. It really rings near and dear to me.

One last nugget of funk in yo faces.

If this does not make you want to dance your *** off we are not likely to get along as friends and you may want to check to see if you have a pulse or not. You may suffer from Bob Stoopsitis which means you hate Puppies and Jesus.
