    Okay, so it's not new news. But, it's nice for us seniles to have a reference thread for when crootin heats up in January, 2016.

    Demarco Boyd ..... Gilmer High (Gilmer, TX)
    :hookem::hookem::hookem:-horn ..... ILB ..... 5-11/228 ..... TEXAS
    District 5-4A-II Defensive MVP as a junior; District 16-3A Defensive Newcomer of the Year as a sophomore; first-team all-district selection as a defensive lineman as a freshman.

    Demarco is the younger brother of 2015 UT commit, CB Kris Boyd, and the cousin of former UT cornerback Curtis Brown who brought both Boyds in for an unofficial visit back in November.

    Per BON:
    Other than being undersized in general, the younger Boyd is a bit difficult to project because he played nose tackle as a sophomore before moving outside to defensive end in 2014.

    However, the attributes that will give him a chance to contribute in college are still obvious -- he can explode out of his stance with significant power generated from his sturdy lower body, he's quick in short areas, he understands how to use his hands, and he's physical in general. On the year he had over 100 tackles and forced five fumbles.

    Damn, I misread the thread title and thought Demarco Boyd decommitted. Aggy still believes that Kris Boyd will decommit and go there. But even aggy doesn't think demarco will decommit from the Horns. After all he managed to go to the aggyland junior day and have a hookem sign in every picture they took!! Aggy actually didn't even notice what his hands were doing till after the pictures came out, and they got all upset. Classic stuff. Demarco is all horn. I don't think he can stop a train with his hands, though :)

    Notes from day one of the Texas State 7-on-7 Tournament:

    LB Demarco Boyd (committed to Texas) - This young man is an athlete. Boyd is a linebacker by designation, but did not play a snap on defense Thursday in 7v7 action. Instead, he was the Gilmer 7v7 squad's biggest playmaker as an inside receiver and running back out of the backfield. Boyd's offensive ball skills for a defensive player are simply incredible and honestly, borderline ridiculous. He caught the ball cleanly, quietly and softly; away from his body and using his hands (never a "slap!" sound). He frames and tracks passes well and generally finds ways to get open even though he's the biggest guy out there. Boyd's also dangerous in the open-field with the football. I'm sure video from Rivals and other outlets on-hand will soon be available showing his skills on the offensive side of the football as he made some highlight-reel plays.

    Boyd said after the workout that he's unsure if he'll attend Under the Lights camp at the end of the month, but is 100-percent committed to Texas, has shut things down with other coaching staffs, and will not take any visits outside of Austin this fall and winter.

    Make that 28-straight for Demarco Boyd and the Gilmer Buckeyes (12-0) after they demolished Mexia on Friday, 63-14. The 228-pound athlete, who could end up at a number of positions for Texas, scored on a four-yard run. He also converted a two-point conversion and turned in a solid defensive performance with his usual half-dozen tackles. Gilmer is set to square off with Center (10-2) on Friday at the Trinity Mother Frances Rose Stadium in Tyler.

    Ian Boyd thinks our new offense will be good news for Boyd in the role of FB/h-back/pain maker/point-scorer.

    Here I am, confused again, and needing help. How can a player sign a LOI before February. It appears that is what Demarco is doing.

    I wondered about that too. Maybe the February date is the cut-off but you can sign before then?

    If he is a EE he has to sign the Agreement in order to register for the spring semester.

    I remember Ohio State's Pryor signing weeks (months?) after NSD, so you don't necessarily have to sign then either. Of course teams my not want to wait for you to decide, so they could move on. Signing after NSD would only work for 5 star studs.

    But you didn't ask all that, did you? :smile1:
