Pretty heartbreaking story. Prayers for this kid

***Update: The NCAA released a statement regarding the situation.

It's situations like this where the NCAA shows it's cold, cruel side (which is pretty much the side we see all the time). There has to be some room for discretion to understand what this kid received was a basic human need and not just because he was a football player (and a walk-on, at that). Not everything can be black and white - sometimes it's a bit gray and the NCAA needs to be flexible enough to deal with it.

Accepting a place to live is an “improper benefit.” I hope he’s not improperly acquiring food, water or oxygen.

Could we get a petition going to have some human beings installed at the NCAA? Actually, anything with a beating heart will do.

Johnny gets off with a 20 second timeout and this kid gets this? I'm all for a petition. LonghornCatholic ain't scared to put his name on it!

Didn't we have a similar case with a family in California, where they were provided housing?
Does this mean that just providing a soft place to sleep for a homeless person, could keep that person from ever competing in college sports? As suggested there should be degrees of these rules violations.

I feel for the guy, but I get the feeling this isnt the entire story.

I don't buy that at all. First b/c the NCAA has lost any grounds to get the benefit of the doubt on any situation whatsoever, but also because Dwayne Jarrett getting part of his apt paid for by a close family friend who also happened to be Matt Leinart's dad wasn't considered a violation.

No kidding! This organization was set up by federal bureaucrats in the early 19s, and as always, it turns to sewage.
