Hemphill's video isnt as impressive as Collins, but he looks really nice too. Some of those catches were to under thrown balls, but hes got some good wheels.
I propose a new HornFans rating system -- , , , or instead of 1-star, 2-star, 3-star, and 4-star. This thread seems like the perfect place to start.
Reggie Hemphill-Mapps has been dropping a bit in the rankings lately as people evaluate the junior video and examine his physical growth currently. He has fallen from a top-40 (once a 5-star) type prospect in late 2013 to a top-150 prospect as of now (in general). Apparently because the "evaluators" are worrying that he may not get bigger/taller. Some of the expectations on physical growth after the sophomore year do not work out later. On the other hand, in such cases, some players simply just show in their senior years that they need to get no bigger to still be top-notch, and they come back up the rankings fairly fast too. Let us hope Reggie falls in that category. In any event, everybody who complained when Charlie pulled the offer as soon as he came in last year, should know that Charlie had a legitimate concern that everybody else is showing now! He wanted to wait a little and look again. I think our staff finally just decided that he was not going to be too bad in any case, offered again, and got him to recommit. Depending on how productive and sure-handed he is at his his height/length/speed in his senior year, he may come back up to top-75 as a smaller receiver or fall down to top-250 for not being super-top-notch at that size. Either way, he will be a good 4-star commit!
Good idea, but maybe after they commit? Just a little reluctant to tack on the honor of horns signs to those who may not be too serious about us yet, I guess. Some of them maybe aggy you know
Good start. Lots of work to do between now and signing day, but I have confidence in the coaching staff.
Godz, if we get a new commitment, is a separate thread started, or should we check for edits/additions above? Thanks again for the great info!
If there's already a thread about the player as a prospect, then we should update it and put all our new posts about his commitment et al in there. If there's no thread, then we create a new one. My goal is to keep the pinned threads updated. By that, I mean that I am linking the name of the player to any specific HornFans thread concerning just that player (like all 4 above). On the "Offense" and "Defense" threads you'll notice that if we don't have a HornFans thread for a player, their name is linked to the basic info provided at 247Sports. Over time, I want to have a player thread for each of our most desirable/likely prospects. I hope that we can keep all postings about each player in a single thread to keep things organized and easily searchable. Also, it would help if anyone starts a new thread about a player, please have the title state the player's name and position. I hope I answered your question. If not, I'll try to clarify later - gotta go right now. Thanks!
^^^ Thanks Godz. If anybody forgets to add the name and position in the title, I can edit that in. Also, you could leave in the 247 page link anyway, as it would show the latest known ranking of the player (these services update the rankings many times and the composite ranking changes quite often).
Love the QB intangibles of Buechele in that vid. Good pocket presence (feeling) and mobility avoiding the rush. What's impressed me most is he can really wing it without even stepping into throws. Live arm for sure. Wait until he cleans all that up with technique tuning at the next level. Even his softer throws have good placement where only his guys have a play on it. Liking that guy a lot.
Good news... All 4 of the current commits (Boyd, Buechele, Hemphill-Mapps, Johnson) are planning to enroll early next year.
2016 not looking great right now... we seem a little desperate (whoreish) offering everyone and their little brothers.
Last year class was "halfway decent"? That is putting it mildly (comment from Bedford, not from a Longhorn critic).
Strong finished strong last year. And a major selling point to the top guys coming in for next year is that they will get opportunities to play day one. Look at all the guys contributing this year. And starting. And Strong can sell to them that they will get to play, but they will already have great talent to play with. Hes right when he says this team is going to flip. Heard and Co are eventually going to be very good. There arent many teams that can boast as many young players getting this kind of experience, and competing while they are at it. Texas could have a winning record right now. They are close to winning these games, and they are a bunch of young guns. Just wait. They are taking their lumps now, but it is going to change. And next years freshmen can be a part of it, and be a part of it in a big way.
Verbal commitments mean nothing these days. If Strong is stuck on 9 after the first Wednesday in February - Texas has a problem.
We will get players. There are enough good players who would love to play at DKR and wear the uniform. How many are 4-5 star top end players, that is the question. I bet we get some. Collin Johnson is going to be an absolute beast. We really need more OL and DL players. That is our biggest need.
