ESPN's Bracketology has us in the play in game with the next Game against Kentucky.

Kentucky lost one of their starters from that game for the season shortly after they beat Texas.(FWIW) Holmes was playing much, much better then though so it might as well be a push.

I am the eternal optimist and have one foot solidly in Sunshine Pumperville most of the time and I admit this. But this play in game thing irks me. It really does. If we continue to fizzle out and don't have a strong finish to earn our way into the tourney, I can handle that. What I don't want is to be part of the BS game that is the play in game. I make fun of it when other teams are in it and have zero interest in it. I will do the same if it's us. I will watch it but I will make fun of and with it. It's the "I likely shouldn't be here" game. It's the last girl to get asked to dance and it's by the creepy gym coach to make us, and him, feel good. But everybody knows the truth. It's pity.

I want us to either earn an actual spot or don't go at all. I am also not a fan of the NIT. Good lord, if you are not one of the legit 64 friggin' teams that get into this massive tourney, give it up. You don't deserve to play more hoops this season. Go home and watch tv.

I think you are correct on all points here. However, when our team plays, in either the NCJAA or NIT, I will be watching and all into it. I can't help it. I'm a sucker for UT BB and football. Like when we were 6-6 in football, and really, my brain says we didn't deserve post season play, I still watched the game enthusiastically. :hookem:

Kentucky is going to be a 1 seed. How would we be lined up to play them, even if we had a play-in game? 16 seeds are always reserved for the bottom-of-the-barrel conference champions. If we get a 16 seed, I'd pass on it.

Just looked at the bracket. It actually says Texas Southern. The word "Texas" is on one line, and the word "Southern" is on another.

Kentucky would not be happy to have Texas as their play in possible opponent.

Zork, I would watch too. I would make fun of the game but not our team. Sorry if I was not clear. I will watch and cheer loudly but it would feel weird. Maybe we could sneak in and then go deep in the tourney for a new record.

I like the findings that BoBo the Chimp found out about it not being the Horns.

Now bracketology has the Horns as a 12 seed in the west/play in game against BYU and playing WVU/5 Seed. I wouldn't mind that scenario at all, but I don't see that even coming close to a realization. Why would you pit two teams from the same conference so early in the bracket?

They should absolutely spread teams from the same conference out as much as possible, but the committee never seems to want to do that when any conference (ACC, old Big east, Big Ten, etc) gets a lot of teams in the tournament. My big complaint about college football moving to the committee system was the NCAA committees have, at least in my opinion, never been great at their job in basketball or baseball.

Mike Davis' bunch is scrappy. That would be a decent 1 vs 16 game to watch.

Which bracket you looking at? The one I see (http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/bracketology has us in a play-in game as an 11th seed against Temple with the winner going up against #6 Butler

I looked at ESPN. These things change daily now, so I am not surprised you have now seen something different. I just hope it does not take two wins for the Horns to actually make it into the tourney. The way Tech has been playing lately, that game will be tough enough.

Agree, there's no easy wins. I hope we get the two wins tho to move out of the play in game.

Still in the play-in game. No bueno.

Side note, it's amazing to see how accurate Lunardi (sp?) usually is over the course of the season. Ranking football teams is one thing, but there are about three times more basketball teams to keep track of. Don't know how he does it.

Just looked at CBS Bracketology (was worried they might not even have Texas in the tourney), but to my surprise, they had Texas easily in the tourney as a #9 seed. I had to double check to make sure this wasn't from back in February, but low and behold it was from March 14th. Makes me feel a little better, but I am still nervous as heck. I badly want to see the Horns in the tourney, because if they do get there, they definitely have to potential to make some noise. They were finally starting to play as expected these last few games. Had Kansas and OU on the ropes at their houses, should have beat OSU if Taylor would have hit the darn free throw. And the ISU game was just like a road game and we all know what happened there. Just give them a chance committee!!!! Please!!!

Not sure where that March 14th Bracketology is, latest I see is the 13th http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/bracketology with the Horns as a #11 play-in against Temple.

If you follow that bracket, I would prefer it to a 9, which if you beat the 8 you are rewarded with the next game against a No.1 seed, this year likely either UK, Duke, UVA, or Villanova.

If the 11 play-in is accurate, the Horns would have, likely, in order, #11 Temple, #6 Providence, #3 Maryland (Turgeon's team, remember Barnes coached a number of games against him while he was aggy HC), and then either #7 Iowa (who the Horns beat early) or #2KU (who the Horns played pretty much even at the Phogg) before having to face #1 UVA.

    I'd prefer the #11 play-in to the #9 seed.

Edit: I just checked again (a couple of hours after above info), updated 3/14 Bracketology is a #11 straight up vs. #6 Georgetown, then #3 Maryland, then either #7 San Diego State or #2 Wisconsin, then #1 Villanova (all higher seeds winning assumed).

Those scruff-assed ******* Wofford are on the other side at at 12. A TWELVE for those mangy curs and the beloved Horns only one up over those butt-licking canines??!!!???

    Oh, the humanity!

This team has a 4 or 5 seed talent playing with NIT effort at times. A play-in game might be just what they need.

The one I was referring to was at CBSSports.com. USA Today projected the Horns as a 12 Seed.

    Iowa a 7?!?!?!?!?!?

I've been saying I thought we were a play in team (and still do).... but if 21-11 Iowa who we easily beat is a 7, then 20-13 Texas, who played in the toughest basketball conference, is at least a 9. Well, not really, just iowa would be way too highly seeded if they get a 7.

I am actually surprised at WVU getting so much love.
Also, I am confused about the ESPN bracketology. So did the Horns actually move up by being listed as on the bubble as opposed to last four in?? Is being a 12 Seed better than a play in 11 seed? Anyway just hope they get in and get that rematch with Kentucky too....wink wink

I would prefer a straight up 12 vs a 11 play in but just checked again and now we are a straight in 11 seed according to espn.

I'd rather be an 11 or 12 than a 9 (unless we are in kentucky's group). Hopefully we get a favorable grouping.
