The new Cardinal pitcher is Chris Castellanos, who pitched last night also. Marlow steps in to face him. The count goes full and a fly ball to right is two away. Boswell bats lefty with two down. The new pitcher for Texas in the eighth is right handed flame thrower Kyle Johnston. He faces Dunlap leading off for the Cardinal. The righty hitter takes a curve for a called strike three as the 2-3 play is made after Cantu dropped the pitch. Diekroeger bats lefty with one away. A grounder gets by Boswell and into the hole and Hinojosa gets it, but has no play and it's an infield hit. Locher bats righty with one down and one on. A fly ball to left center is taken by Gurwitz for two away. Barr up again and he has hurt the Horns tonight reaching three times. He bats righty with one on and two gone. Left hander Ty Culbreth is the new Horn pitcher and he also threw last night. He faces a pinch hitter in righty hitter Jack Klein. Two on and two down as he lines a single to right and that scores a run. Stanford leads 5-3. Carter bats with runners on the corners and two down and a run in. Klein steals second without a throw. A sharp one hopper to Marlow retires the side. A big insurance run for Stanford and one last shot for Texas as Stanford leads now 5-3.
Colton Hoch, who pitched last night is in to try to close out the game and get a save. Cantu leads off the ninth for the Horns. A pop to shallow right is hauled in by the second baseman for one down. Gurwitz bats righty with one away. He goes fishing for a low curve and misses for a K and two down. Stell becomes the last hope for Texas with two gone. A ground ball to third and the 5-3 ends the game as the Horns go in order. Stanford wins 5-3 in another game where Texas had chances and couldn't convert them. It's an uphill battle for the Horns to split the series now and they just can't win in Palo Alto as they have now dropped eight in a row at the Sunken Diamond. Texas has lost four in a row now and needs some offense soon to break out of this funk. A contested call on a double down the right field line was a big call, but Texas has to start getting it done at the plate or they could lose three or get swept out of Palo Alto. Tomorrow is a must win now with French on the mound and I will be back then to try to break this losing skid.
