It's a little bit unusual for a tight end to get the top honor at the receiver group but this really wasn't a tough decision for The Opening coaching staff. Smith has great size at tight end, is a mismatch athletically and as a route-runner, catches almost everything and took an incredible number of reps.

Per IT:
Kaden Smith is the best tight end the state has produced since I don’t even know when. Texas would take him no matter what but has some ground to make up with Stanford and Alabama.

Kaden Smith won the MVP at Nike's The Opening (Texas) for the Wide Recever/Tight End grouping.

I've watched this kid play for a couple of years. His downfield blocking and competitive spirit are marvelous. He would have mind-blowing stats in an offense more adept at passing. He was fearless returning kicks as a up back.

 

In addition to recruiting the 4 star Kaden, I want to recruit the 5 star "Go Kaden" girl in the photos above.

Kaden Smith:

• Has a large frame, hands/concentration and the ability to block.
• Linebackers can’t stay with him and defensive backs aren’t big enough to challenge him for the ball.
• Can line up all over the field from traditional tight end to wide receiver or h-back.

Texas is in need of a pass catching tight end and Smith has made several trips to Austin. "Charlie Strong is bringing Texas in a great direction," Smith said.

 

Kaden Smith committed to Stanford back in April, and while he’s happy with his decision, he is still in touch with the UT coaches.

Jeff Traylor and Jay Norvell stay in touch regularly, and Smith said he hasn’t completely shut the door on Texas in case something crazy happens. When asked what it would entail for Texas to climb back into the picture, he basically said it would have to be a situation with him not meeting Stanford’s strict qualifying requirements.
