The new pitcher for Texas State is Blake Whitter, a right hander.

He will face Hinojosa from the right side with two on and two outs.
C.J. could tie it up with anything in a gap as Johnson has the great speed.
Another huge drive to left and this is the longest of the night and it's long gone. A three run bomb!

    Texas leads 5-4.

Shaw bats lefty with two outs.
The count runs full and he is rung up on a pitch outside but called a strike to retire the side.

A big two out rally is capped of by Hinojosa's three run shot and Texas leads for the first time 5-4 as we go to the bottom of eight.

Culbreth out for the Bobcat eighth can get a win if Texas can hold on.

Targun leads off from the right side.
A ground ball gets through under Marlow's glove and into right field for a single.

Skip back out and another change.

The latest Texas pitcher is the newly minted closer, in freshman,Connor Mayes, a right hander.

Hill will bat righty against him with one on
He squares and in a very unusual development in a Texas game, that is the first sac bunt of the night and it's not Texas doing it.

Scheible bats righty with the tying run at second and one down.
He blows him away on a high fast one and the swinging K is two gone.

Skip back again and again a change is made.

Kirby Bellow a southpaw in to face the lefty hitter with two gone and the tying run at second.

McElroy will stick around and steps in from the left side, with two outs and the tying run on second.
A sharp breaking curve is whiffed on and Barrera picks up the ball and the throw to first completes the 2-3 out for a K that ends the frame.

Texas holds on and leads 5-4 as the ninth is here

Whitter stays on for the Texas ninth after giving up the lead last inning.

Barrera will lead off for the Horns from the right side.
A full count pitch is delivered and a curve breaks inside for ball four and a lead runner.

Marlow bats lefty with one on.
He squares and lays down a 1-3 sac bunt, the first of the game for the Horns.

Coach is out now is leaving the scene.

Cantu bats righty with one out and a big insurance run on second base.
A ground ball to short goes 6-3 as Barrera moved sort of dangerously to third on the second out.

Baker, the DH now is up righty with a man on third.
He grounds one behind the bag at third and the third baseman has it on a dive, but his long throw is late as Baker slides in safely at first as the run scores.

    Texas leads 6-4.

Travis Jones, who came in to play first bats with one on and two down.
He grounds to third for a 5-3 to retire the side.

Texas gets a big insurance run to lead 6-4 to the bottom of the ninth.

Hope I don't jinx it, but I'm feeling better about Kirby Bellow as a closer.

Bellow stays in to try and close out the win.

The Texas State ninth starts, as a pinch hitter from the right side is, Mickey Scott.
A ground ball to Marlow, now playing third and the 5-3 is a big first out.
Travis Jones is in to play first.

Geisler, at the top of the order, bats righty with one down.
He K's swinging at a low fast ball for two away.

Vallieres, from the right side is the last hope for the Bobcats.
He can't hold up on a pitch in the dirt and Barrera tags him for a 2U put out and the K that ends the game.

Texas wins 6-4 for their 20th straight win over the Bobcats over a ten year period. It wasn't easy, but it's a W and let's listen to some post game and come back to wrap it up in a bit.

Like I said before, we can score late. The only question is can we close on pitching? I think that will get better throughout the year.

Wow. What a response from the squad. That whole game felt like a "Wow, they're really gonna get a chewing from Augie," and then suddenly changed to "Once again, we know how to close late"

So many good things from this game. 18 players in orange saw the field. 6 pitchers saw action, with much of the relief staff doing what they're always asked under Augie & Skip: perform under pressure. Not to mention our ninth batter in the lineup, Gurwitz, going 2 for 3 with his triple being the second most important hit of the night with 2-outs late in the game.

I'm not sure how competitive the Tx. State team has been this season, but regardless, if this doesn't give our team more confidence going into another weekend series, I don't know what would.

    On to Haymarket park! :hookem:

I guess there isn't any post game because of softball, at least that is what I am getting on texassports audio.

Back to hardball, Texas avoided a second straight Tuesday loss, by using the long ball. Three homers made up five runs till the ninth, when the Horns added an insurance run.

It was frustrating for a long time, as Parsons would give up many well hit balls, but had the lead 4-2 to the eighth.
Two outs and nobody on and Texas strikes for three runs to finally turn the game around with Hinojosa getting the last and biggest of the Texas homers, to give the Horns the 5-4 lead.

The bull pen did well again and kept the game close enough for the comeback.

Time to go to Nebraska again, but not to Omaha just yet. It's off to Lincoln and former Big 12 rival Nebraska, for a three game series in a non-conference weekend.

Need to keep winning and build the record, to stay in the running for a regional hosting bid, been too long since we hosted one. Be back for the weekend games.:hookem2::bevo:

Still waiting for my new contract from Dionysus. Get on that agent snek, what am I paying you for? What, I'm not paying you, well get on it anyway, there might be some kek in it for you. :smile1:

:hookem: Thanks for the updates NB, really good not to have a back to back mid-week loss, this team needs a good run of wins to get back into the regional hosting talk and have an outside shot at a national seed. i want no part of having to go to aggy or rice for regional or sper-regional.

    Hi NB,

Augie must have wanted to get back to Jeanne in Austin because he did the post-game comments with Bill Little over by the dugout during the Eyes.

Not sure I've ever seen that before. I assume it actually had to do with something re the broadcast schedule, but don't know.

I do love Bobcat Field. All that beautifully-manicured natural grass and none of the minor league-like crap that Patterson is doing with the Disch atmosphere.
