I have no doubt that the Obama Justice Dept. under Holder has become politicized and corrupt, witness their non-investigation of the IRS scandal, but why would Obama's Justice Dept. want to protect/help a group of "neocons" calling themselves "United Against Nuclear Iran"? It doesn't make sense. You'd think that they would want to smash a group with that makeup and stated purpose.

There is probably a lot more than we know going on behind the scenes. While there certainly appears to be divergence between Obama and most of the rest of the political establishment with respect to negotiating with Iran on the issue of nuclear enrichment, the Obama State department is filled with neocons, many of which are held over from previous administrations. People tend to associate neocons with the Republican party, but Hillary Clinton is certainly a neocon and for the most part, Obama's policies are in sync with what they want to do. This is exemplified with the aggressive stances taken with Syria, Libya, and Ukraine.

And although Obama/Kerry are negotiating with Iran, something very much opposed to what the neocons and Israel want, at the same time, we are supporting Saudi Arabia in their attack on the Yemen Rebels, a group backed by Iran.

So are we orchestrating, through our puppets or otherwise, a sunni-shiite war of attrition?

I'm sure a good portion of the powers that be advocate something like that.

The carrot offered to Iran is the lifting of sanctions (a type of warfare). But at the same time, the US is supporting the Saudi's in their illegal operation against the Yemen factions which are favored by Iran. The war against Syria is geared to hurt Iran and Hezbollah (as well as Russia). The US would like Iran to open up its markets to US corporations and even big oil. There is no appeasement. Iran is being strangled. The US and Obama are using the negotiations in the attempt to strengthen US hegemony in the region while simultaneously torquing up pressure on Iran in terms of low oil price, military aid to Iran's enemy (evil) Sunni neighbors, and through sanctions.

Clean: I'm not surprised the Justice Department is in some ways politicized and corrupt. But it didn't suddenly become so. You remember Alberto Gonzales was practically amnesiatic when called to testify before Congress about political abuses? I remember thinking as he testified "I hope a limo brought him to Capitol Hill, because if he parked his car somewhere there's no chance he'd be able to find it."

Of course, as a Republican, he was a "good soldier".

I disagree that it is a good article. "Many unanswered questions" - kind of hard to tell. It slams so hard that it is difficult to pull facts out of the furious, spitting, opinion heavy prose. The topic is extremely interesting, but that overblown piece doesn't generate much light. I mourn the death of journalism.

That said, we are in many ways a police state.
