Per HD: You'd be hard-pressed to find a player more anxious to get his career started as a Longhorn than four-star running back Chris Warren. The son of former NFL great, and his namesake, is working out religiously to make sure he is as prepared as he can possibly be by the time he gets to Austin in the coming months. When exactly that will be Warren is not exactly sure. But the news that Donald "Duke" Catalon will be limited this spring due to a knee injury makes Warren’s arrival that much more pivotal. The Longhorns are going to rely more heavily on Jonathan Gray... But Texas running backs coach Tommie Robinson likes to play multiple backs as much as any RB coach in the country. The Longhorns will need reinforcements and Warren hopes to be one of the main ones. The powerful back said he is up to 238 pounds right now. To put that into perspective, both Gray and D’Onta Foreman check in at 215 pounds (Catalon is listed at 195). His unique blend of size and speed, as well as an elusiveness he likens to Marshawn Lynch, are all reasons why he was one of the top RBs in the country. He understands that expectations are high for him, and he wants to take those head on as quickly as possible. "I'm extremely excited and I'm ready to be down there," he said. "I'm just waiting for the day."
He's going to play early and often. I don't think the staffs (both Mack and Charlie) understood what they could get out of Gray on a game-by-game basis. And how he could basically tear himself a new one on non-contact plays. Warren represents a 10-15 touches kind of freshman because he's special. And if that doesn't work, Tristian Houston looks Division-I ready as well.
