Christian Wallace ..... Tompkins (Katy, TX)
    4-star ..... ATH ..... Oregon State ..... 6-2.5/211

    Per BON:
A consensus four-star prospect, Wallace plays at both the halfback and cornerback positions in high school - and has the talent and athleticism to play at either position in college as well.

As a cornerback, Wallace has the ability to consistently high-point the ball and out-jump taller wide receivers - his ball awareness allows him to contest deep passes without drawing P.I. calls. Occasionally, Wallace does not turn his hips quickly enough in coverage, allowing faster WRs to get behind him. His speed and size should allow him to excel as a press corner, a skill that could prove to be invaluable in Coach Strong's defensive system.

Want to make a positive impression on Charlie Strong? As a player, you need speed, athleticism, - and above all, a mean streak. Wallace seems to have all three qualities in spades.

    Per Rivals:
He is a physical cornerback and he also has the ability to work at safety.

Short but insightful BR video discussing why Wallace would be great for UT. (Sorry, unable to embed it.)

Quote from BR video mentioned above:

"You look at Wallace and he's a tall kid, long athlete. He lined up at corner, but I expect him to play safety at the next level. You watch him play and it's not just the quick feet, it's not just the fluid hips, it's not just the length that he brings to the table -- it's his attitude. He screams, 'I'm a Charlie Strong football player' to me when I watch him play. This is a guy you see go back and pick up every one of his teammates."

    Per IT:
How he fits at Texas: Wallace is really smooth for such a big guy and has the hips to handle playing in space, even if his eventual upside probably isn't as a fast enough athlete to play on an island outside. He's a big kid, already possessing ideal safety size, who can break down in the open field and make tackles. For Strong, he's a guy that would make a rangy SS who can cover a slot or TE with help and be a tackling menace from the middle of the field. - Ian Boyd

Coach says: Despite his extensive tape at running back and his athlete label, I think he projects to the defensive side of the ball at the next level. He has the size you want and desire for the safety position and he definitely possesses the athleticism necessary for the position. Like his attitude and willingness to be physical.

How this affects Texas: Former DMN writer Randy Galloway said once," I hate a punk but love a thug." Every major contender has enforcers. UT had Aaron Harris and Robert Killebrew in '05, and Sergio Kindle in '09 to fill those roles during title-game appearances. Wallace is that cat. He's also the guy I think might commit next. - Justin Wells

His abs look a lot like mine except I have a little more padding for safety purposes. That’s just dangerous to go around with unpadded abs like that.

    Per Scout:
Wallace is a big-framed player even at safety, but has spent time at camps playing cornerback, so it is easy to spot that he has a well-rounded skill set. He can cover and he will come up and stick his nose in and make a tackle. He could factor in at a number of positions on the next level. He is one of the more physically impressive players in the state. Was one of the top DBs at The Opening Regional in New Orleans, earning an invite to finals.

Christian Wallace will attend the UTL camp and will work out at corner. His favorites are Texas, LSU and Mississippi State.

“Texas, I love every coach there. Coach Strong, he’s a great defensive coach and I’m going to school for defense. Coach Bedford, he’s a defensive guru also. I feel like he’d tie me in to the whole defensive scheme well. Coach Vaughn, he wants me at corner and I want to play corner.”

Wallace said he may have a decision by August, and he said location will be huge in his commitment. When asked if that favors Texas, he responded with a simple “yeah.”

    Committed to Oregon State 9-24.

Could be a late flip, à la P.J. Locke.

Some rumors he may have grade issues and that's why the staff wasn't pressing him. Once again, rumors only.

Sealy defensive back Christian Wallace is planning to visit Texas before National Signing Day. The visit is not scheduled, but Wallace plans on reaching out to the Texas staff.

“I’m taking an official visit to Mississippi State on the 22nd and one to TCU,” Wallace confirmed. “I’m going to ask the Texas coaches if I can take a visit there.”

Wallace, who committed to Oregon State after taking an official visit to Corvallis when the Beavers hosted San Jose State, said he still wants to explore. “You never know," Wallace said. "You might see something at the other schools."

The 6-foot-2, 211-pounder took two unofficial visits to Texas during the season. Although he is still committed to Oregon State, there are some things Wallace likes about Texas.

First off, the Longhorns are mom approved. The four-star prospect also went into some of the other details. “It’s a good school, and they have what I want to major in,” Wallace said. “They’re football program is on the come-up. I also like that they are not afraid to play freshman.”
