I didn't renew

I'm finally able to write this without feeling like I am going to cry. I didn't renew my football tickets this year. I did pay my foundation dues, so I can keep my baseball tickets, but football tickets are a thing of the past for me. My husband was critically ill and in the hospital for 10 days (he's much better now), and the specter of the hospital expenses that aren't covered by his HMO is frightening. So we decided that we could not afford to renew.

Fortunately, I have a dear friend with two tickets who is graciously giving me right of first refusal for every home game.

I've gone to Texas games since I was a baby, first with my parents, then as a student, then with season tickets in my and my husband's name. I was a baby in my mama's arts at Darrell Royal's first game. I went to every game in the 1968 and 1969 seasons, and all but one in the 1970 season. It hurts to think that I no longer have season tickets, but all things considered, I'd rather have my husband.

    I made the right decision.

I know that decision to pass on the football tickets was tough for you and Shadowdancer. You made the right decision and we are pleased he is slowly recovering. Keep us updated.

Great choice Texanne. I would have done the exact same thing. BTW, I'm missing the Rice game...daughter's 3rd birthday party that Saturday. I have 4 seats between the 45-50 in the UD. Your's if you want them (when they arrive). Let me know.

I imagine it is a bit emotional, but you'll still be at many games I bet. Glad to hear your hubby is doing better!

Yes, it is very emotional for a lifetime Longhorn like me. But I knew they were going to price me out of tickets at some point, anyway ...
