Another must win for Texas. I don't think this team could recover from losing a conference series to last place Kansas. The schedule ahead is just to rough to think a long winning streak is in the offering.

The Horn pitching staff is taxed to the limit and in flux, with Hollingsworth hurt. You would hope that against a terrible Kansas pitching crew, that the offense would take over and pull their weight. Of course, that has been a pipe dream, as the offense continues to sputter, it doesn't seem to matter who they face on the mound.

Kacy Clemens will get the start for the Horns, on the hill today. Texas could really use quality start of seven solid innings, with the staff so overworked.

The game is once again streamed on
    espn.go.com and the audio texas.leanplayer.com.

Rain could also figure into the game today, with possible delays.

    Lineups are coming.

Kansas starts a freshman Blake Weiman, with a 1-5 record and an era of 7.49. He is a left hander.

Again Texas has to hit pitchers like this, no excuses, that's just the way it is. They haven't so far and that's why they are in danger of losing the series. Got to break out the sticks today or get ready for summer ball.

Ben Johnson will lead off batting right handed.
A ground ball up the middle and into center is a single and a good start.

Shaw bats lefty, with one on.
He squares and pops the bunt up, the catcher has it, for one down.
    More bad execution.

Hinojosa bats righty, with one on and one down.
A shallow fly ball to left is caught by the shortstop, over his shoulder, for two outs.

Cantu bats righty, with one on and two gone.
Johnson should go, nothing to lose.
He goes, has a bad jump, then goes back to first and the throw from second is late.
Cantu back in and rips a liner down the left field line to the wall. Johnson comes around third and is out at the plate.
Cantu has a double, but the side is retired.

Another bad bunt and it costs Texas another run. Bad blood is brewing as words are exchanged between the two teams.
That's how bad things are, we are getting into fights with last place Kansas.

    Kansas comes to bat.

Kacy Clemens will start today for Texas and the right hander needs a good outing.

Justin Protacio, the second baseman leads off, batting lefty.
He lines to Cantu at first, for out one.

Connor McKay, the left fielder, bats righty with one away.
His homer won the game last night.
His grounder goes through, on the left side, for a single and Kansas first runner.

Matt McLaughlin, the shortstop bats righty, with one on and one down.
A ground ball to short and it's a 6-4-3 double play to retire the side.

    One played and nothing across.

  6. NBHorn7

    NBHorn7 Pimp Daddy

Weiman is back on the mound for Kansas, as the second starts.

Barrera leads off, from the right side.
A ground ball through the hole, on the left side, is a second straight lead runner.

Marlow up lefty, with one on.
He bunts and it goes down the right side, on the line.
The pitcher fields, but the throw is not in time, an infield single, puts two aboard.

Gurwitz up righty, with two on.
He pops up the bunt and again the catcher has it.
    Even more made execution.

Boswell bats lefty, with still two on and one away.
He K's swinging, for two gone.

Baker bats righty, with two on and and two outs.
A fly ball to center, will end the frame.

How many times can the Horns hurt themselves? Many it seems.
Despite four hits in two at bats, Texas is scoreless. So 0-0, to the bottom of two.

Clemens back for his second inning of work.

The catcher is Michael Tinsley, batting lefty, to lead off.
He lines a single to right and a lead runner.

First baseman, Blair Beck, bats right handed, with one on.
A full count and a ground ball to third goes 5-4-3 and the second double play in two innings.

Joven Afenir, bats lefty and plays center field, with two away.
He lines a drive, that the wind takes to the wall in left center, for a double.

Dakota Smith, the right fielder, bats righty, with a man at second and two down.
A fly ball to right rides the wind to the track before it's caught by Shaw, to retire the side.

    Two innings gone and 0-0.

Weiman comes back out to pitch the third.

Johnson, back to the top of the order, bats right handed.
He singled his first trip and a liner to right center is legged into a double, with his speed.

Shaw up lefty, with one on.
He gets the bunt down this time and the sac goes 1-3.

Hinojosa bats right handed, with one on and one down.
He lines a ball just over the left fielder's glove and off the wall, for another double. Hinojosa stopped running thinking the ball was going to be caught, got to run it out, might have cost him third.
    Johnson scores.

    Texas leads 1-0.

Cantu up righty, with one on and one down.
He sends a liner to right center and the gapper is another double.

    Texas leads 2-0.

This pitcher as his era suggests is horrible and the Horns should play some serious add on and should have more, but the bad bunts hurt.

Barrera bats righty, with a man at second and one down.
A flair to right and it drops in front of a confused right fielder, that should have been caught, but it's a single. He went back and then couldn't make the play.

Marlow bats lefty, with runners on the corners and one away.
He grounds to short and it's a 6-4-3 double play, to end the rally.

Well that ended quickly and reminds you of yesterday's three run inning. You hope the Horns will keep hitting this bad pitching.

Texas leads 2-0, to the bottom of three.

  9. NBHorn7

    NBHorn7 Pimp Daddy

Clemens pitches with the lead, in the Kansas half of the third.

Steve Goldstein, the DH, bats lefty, leading off.
A slow roller back to the mound goes 1-3, for the first out.

Tommy Mirabelli, the third baseman, bats righty, with one away.
A little hump back liner to Hinojosa, at short, is two down.

Protacio, is the top of the Jayhawk order, batting lefty, with two gone.
He sends a fly ball to left center to Gurwitz, that ends the inning.

Kansas down in order and Texas leads 2-0, after three played.

  10. NBHorn7

    NBHorn7 Pimp Daddy

Weiman is still out for the Jayhawks, on the mound, in the Texas fourth.

Texas needs to keep pounding him.

Gurwitz leads off, batting right handed.
A grounder through the left side and it goes into the gap and it's the fifth double of the game for Texas.

Boswell bats lefty, with one on.
He squares and takes a strike and then fouls off a bunt attempt.
Texas can't get a bunt down or they would be further ahead.
He K's swinging and it's why Texas is only up two so far.

Pitching coach out and a pitching change.

  11. NBHorn7

    NBHorn7 Pimp Daddy

Colin Toalson, a righty hander, is the new Kansas pitcher. An era of 6.75.

Baker is batting right handed, with one down and one on.
A drive to left center and the wind has it and it leaves the yard. A two run homer, his first as a Horn.

    Texas leads 4-0.

Johnson will bat at the top of the order, with one down.
It's a strong wind blowing straight out today.
He walks and it's time for the running game and be aggressive and put the game away.

Shaw up lefty, with one on and one down.
He needs to break out of his funk.
He walks, to put two on.

Hinojosa bats righty, with two aboard and one away.
He lines a single to right, Johnson holds and Shaw is caught off second, the catcher waits too long for the throw and he gets back to second. Could have been another base running blunder.

Cantu bats righty, with the bases loaded and one down.
A ground ball to short goes 6-4-3, to end another rally.

Texas leads 4-0, but it could be much more. Hope it doesn't come back to haunt them. Bottom of the fourth is next.

I am dumbfounded as to why the Horns aren't further ahead....just kidding.

McLaughlin bats righty, with one on.
A fly ball to right is one away.

Tinsley bat left handed, with one on and one down.
The wind is really howling out now.
A fly ball to right and it's gone, with that wind. Two run dinger.
It's that kind of day and why Texas needed more runs.

    Texas leads 4-2

Beck bats righty, with one down.
The trainer comes out to the mound for Texas.
Skip comes out too and there is big discussion going on.
    He stays in.

Beck back in righty and a ground ball under the glove of Hinojosa is another hit, a single.

Afenir, bats lefty with one on.
Another fly ball to right and it carries to the base of the wall, before Shaw makes the catch.
Wind is a big player in the game right now.

Smith bats with one on and two down, righy.
Another fly ball to right and Shaw has it, just in front of the track, to retire the side.

Kansas gets two and Texas leads 4-2, after four.

The next pitcher for Kansas is Ryan Jackson, a freshman lefty.

Shaw bats lefty, with two down.
He desperately needs to join the hit parade.
He walks and this pitcher has issued a lot of free passes, as in now 20 in 11.1 innings pitched.

Hinojosa bats righty, with one on and two outs.
A full count and Shaw is off and another gapper to right center, is a triple and another run.

    Texas leads 9-2.

Cantu bats righty, with one on and two gone.
He walks and this is going to be a long game.

Barrera bats righty, as Texas has batted around.
He is hit on the foot and that loads the bases.

Kansas might make a change, but nobody better is in the pen.

Marlow bat lefty, with bases loaded and two outs.
He throws so wide and hard, that the pitch bounces off the wall and back to the catcher, that no one moves.
A full count and at runners all go now and grounder up the middle is a hit, two more score.

    Texas leads 11-2.

    Coach out and another change.

The latest Jayhawk pitcher is Brandon Johnson, a freshman righty, with a nifty era of 9.00.

It's the blood letting long in coming and a game too late.

Gurwitz bats righty, with two on and two outs.
A fly ball to left, will finally retire the side.

Texas gets more runs in an inning than they usually get in two or three game. So they can finally cruise to a win you would hope, up 11-2, halfway through the final game.

Freshman Jon Malmin, will come in to pitch the fifth for Texas. Clemens did have a twinge in his throwing arm last inning and the trainer came out. You certainly hope he is all right, can't lose another arm.

He K's swinging on the fast ball, for one down.

Mirabelli bats lefty, with one out.
He sends a blooper to right, that drops for a hit.

Protacio will bring the top of the order back for Kansas, batting lefty, with one and one out.
A fly ball to center and the wind keeps carrying it and it goes just beyond the diving Gurwitz, for a double.

This brings out Skip and he wants a righty.

    Pitching change.

  18. NBHorn7

    NBHorn7 Pimp Daddy

I know it's Kansas but this is still what Texas needs for the rest of the season.

Question. How is this game on ESPN3 when it's a Time Warner Cable production?

He can't hit it seems even if Kansas let our famous Hornfans poster snek pitch. :)
A fly ball to left will end the frame.

Texas gets a run on the Johnson homer and leads 12-5, to the bottom of six.

Finally, a game with a lead start to finish. I know the Kansas pitching was really weak, but it still must feel good for them--everyone got at least one hit.

As I was saying, this kind of hitting should have started yesterday. Texas really needed the sweep. It looks like without a long and unexpected winning streak, the only way to get in a regional, is to win the Big 12 Tournament.

If we somehow reach a regional, I really think the NCAA would send us to College Station, they would like that.

The difference between the TCU pitching and Kansas is as daylight and dark. The Frogs have one of the best staffs in the nation, with a team era of 2.30.
