Evelyn was on the JUCO national championship team, Chipola College in Florida. I saw on the TN forum that Texas is one of her final four schools and that she is visiting Texas this weekend. Her other three schools listed are Florida State, Kentucky and Tennessee. Anyone heard anything about her?

Don't know much about her but looks like she averaged 14.7pts/12rebs per game at 6'3. Don't we already have 15 on scholarship though or would this be for 16-17?

Pretty sure she would be signing for 15-16 season. I don't know how the coaches see the numbers working out if she chose Texas, but we do need a solid power forward!

Wow I had just sent a pm to someone yesterday asking if they knew anything about her college choices; I could find nothing online other than a Vol related blog saying they were pursuing her, along with a lot of other top schools. There may have been more info on subscription sites but those don't come up on Google searches. She's actually considered to be one of the top JUCO prospects to come along in many years, perhaps the same type of impact player as Danielle Adams, and those averages posted above are from her frosh season. This past year she averaged 22 points and 17 rbs per contest; in the NC game she had a dbl-dbl and pulled down 18 rebounds. You always have to wait and see how someone makes the transition from the JUCO ranks to Div 1, but I think she's probably at a level above even Adut Bulgak, and we saw what type of contribution she made to FSU this year. I think she would be a great fit for this program...very exciting news to hear we've made her final list. I hope she has an incredible visit and gets to see a lot of Austin while she's here!

I gotta say, Coach Aston never stops working, especially on the recruiting trail. I was hoping she would be trying to address the depth at the power forward position with an impact JUCO who could help immediately. Had not heard this name before, but she appeas to be a rebounding machine:

During the pre-game of today's Orange/White football game on LHN, they interviewed Coach Shaka Smart and then mentioned that Coach Aston was in attendance. TV camera then went to Karen, and also showed glimpses of Kelsey and Brooke. My first thought was if we were hosting a recruit.

She is from Lagos, Nigeria originally, so perhaps there is a connection to our signee, Christina Aborowa:

She seems quite impressive, and looks as though she could be/become a real impact player. To the point of having "room on the roster," how solid do y'all think the walk-on, Emily's, position is on the roster?

Emily's position doesn't impact the situation at all, since she isn't taking up a scholarship. We have 15 players on scholarship, and something would have to change if we are going to accommodate someone else for the coming season. That could mean another player leaving, though I guess it might also mean someone else transitioning to walk-on status (assuming they were willing and circumstances allowed it). No doubt the staff would make everything work as programs face these types of situations from time to time.

Overseas is right. Emily's status has no impact on the scholarship players. Sara transitioning to BB from VB takes up a scholly. That impacts the number the staff is working with. We are looking at two players
(Cecilia Zandalasini , 6-2 wing & Evelyn Akhator 6-3 PF) to join the team in 2015. We have no room for either right now unless someone leaves/is placed on a medical redshirt. They would also impact the number of ships available for 2016, of which we have already used three of a projected five at the start of the spring-Sara and two 2016 verbals. We are at the point where some very tough decisions are going to be made, not just about 2015 but the impact on future classes.

Texas is also looking at Sarah Imovbioh. She is transferring from Virginia and has one year of eligibility remaining but doesn't have to sit out. She led the ACC in rebounding.

Saw that she started following Coach Aston on twitter on April 9th, along with a couple of South Carolina assistant coaches.

Wonder how Evelyn Akhator's visit to Texas last weekend went. If I got the time line right, she visited Florida State before coming to Texas last weekend, will go to Kentucky this weekend and then visit Tenn for her last official visit.

Yeah, I figured that when she visited USC first, that was her first choice. Doesn't sound like we were in line for a visit.
