Heard has work to do, yes, but my take from the scrimmage is:
    • Swoopes came in with 12 season games experiences + 2 spring seasons + played this scrimmage mostly against the 2nd D that had 2 walk-on CBs and he didn't blow anyone's impression away
    • The first time Swoopes went against the 1-D, he went 3 and out
    • Heard came in with 1 spring season and, for most of the day, played against the 1-D; and left most of us with the impression that his performance was a little less/more or equal to Swoopes.
After summer camp Heard should be improved enough to cut down on staring down recievers (something Tyrone still struggles with), holding the ball too long in the pocket, and throwing into traffic.

This kid has the ability to make things happen in No-Way Land which can have nothing but a positive effect on the team. Sure, we'll have to watch him make freshman mistakes, but probably not see him get down on himself and implode.

I'd rather go through another season with a frosh QB than with Swoopes. I have a heart condition.

I didn’t see anything from Swoopes on Saturday that made me think now that’s a D-1 quarterback we can win with. That is what we needed to see from Swoopes at this point in his career. He may prove me wrong though.

The only observable difference in the offense seem to be they were trying to play faster. Hopefully they did not want to show anything and/or did not want to show LB and DB deficiencies.

The best thing to help our QBs would be a strong rushing game. I read that the first team offense averaged 3.5 per rush against the second team defense. That's not gonna get it done.

I unexpectedly ended up in Austin on Saturday and went to see the game. I didn't see anything from Swoopes that made me say to myself "There's our guy". He may be bigger and stronger than he was last season, but unless we're going to have a bench press competition with the opposing team's QB, that doesn't translate into being a more effective QB. Heard didn't exactly light things up either but he just seemed to have more upside potential than Swoopes at this point. Heard is definitely quicker and probably more elusive. All things being equal, I roll the dice with Heard and hope for the best.

I agree with this that, in the "Swoopes vs Heard" discussion, TS wins in throwing the deep ball. I think that, for those who would believe that JH will end up starting not far into next season, there is a natural inclination to think that he will continue to improve significantly during the summer. That assumption though has to be proven, and more complex pass patterns other than those seen in the spring game will challenge JH to do the reads properly and sit in the pocket. However, my assumption is that Watson will stick with the horizontal passing game for at least a majority of the time when Heard is at QB during the first season that he is gaining experience. The deep ball will be used to keep the defense honest. My belief is that you will see more play-optiion pass plays, particularly if the H back and TE can start catching the ball. Execution of the horizontal passing game will be key to Heard's success. From what I saw at the spring game, Heard has mastered the accuracy of the short passing game better than Swoopes. The spring game does not necessarily define the plays that we will see in the fall, because --- with JH in there -- there will be designed plays for Heard to put pressure on the defense to cover both his short passes and take advantage of his running threat. As the year progresses, you will see JH gain more yardage running because there will be Tyrone and Kai to back him up in case JH gets hurt running. I am not forgetting about Vinklarek; there was not much in that game Saturday to judge him.

IMO - TD. He had it long enough and got both feet in bounds versus just needing one. It did not look like he was juggling or lacked possession.

Armati Foreman reacted to some negative reporting by some of the sites on the overall play of the receivers:

NOTE: I happened to agree with some of those reports.

Both quarterbacks will play next year and both will have good moments and bad moments. The season will hinge on J. Gray, if he has a breakout year, we will be scary, if he gets hurt or just does ok, we will have a year like last year.

Which players stood out upon further review?
    Per 247Sports:
Sorry, I don't have time to edit the article. If you're interested, he talks about the positives he saw with:
    1. WR Lorenzo Joe
    2. CB/S John Bonney
    3. DE/LB Naashon Hughes
    4. DE Quincy Vasser
    5. RB Johnathan Gray
    Good read.

After reading several comments on our offense and the QBs running said offense, I wasn't too impressed either with either QB or Watson's ability to run an effective offense scheme. Watson is going to be the death of CS. Unless we were running a very vanilla scheme, it looked like the same o' thing from last year just ran at an increase paced (like a previous poster observed). I can say that I think long term JH is the better QB to take our team to the next level.

I am not sure if Slugga is still on this board but I wish he would weigh in on the subject. I value his opinion when it comes to analysis of the offense.
