And if you enjoy the movie, be sure and read the novel it was based on. The time frame in the novel is about 3 times longer than the movie, as it begins with Willie Keith entering Midshipman school to earn his USNR commission and continues after the mutiny and court martial, to the end of the war.
And the account of the court martial is considerably more detailed. Greenwald's questioning of a Freudian psychiatrist is priceless (but had to be left out of the movie, given the standards of the 1950s).
