Mark Jackson ..... Steele (Cibolo, TX)
    4-star ..... WDE ..... 6-3/226 ..... aggy ou

    Per IT:
Mark Jackson moves like a mongoose, his lateral quickness and first few steps off the block are totally beyond what most HS OL can handle and the fact that he has long arms to help fend off lineman doesn't make it any easier to block him. At Fox, his timing on the blitz and likely high aptitude for developing pass-rush moves would make him a nasty weapon in the pass rush.

He is relentless, he plays fast, and he plays violent. That's what I take away from this kid's tape when I am finished watching. I love it when I turn on the tape and a kid is getting off the rock consistently, his motor is always running hot and he is making plays in the backfield. Jackson already shows the burst and athleticism run the arc and beat tackles around the edge and he has the ability to redirect at the drop of the hat and get underneath them. He flashes a nice little arm-over move that is quick and compact, which is the key to winning and getting your ribs beat up by lineman. Can he maintain his quickness if/when he adds muscle? That's my only question.

In this day and age, the pass rusher has become increasingly valuable, especially in the pass-happy Big 12. If you don't get to the QB, you probably don't win. Jackson solves that problem. He doesn't say much, but I know he and his family likes UT. With UT taking low numbers in 2016, Jackson is on the borderline as a take. In the end, I think Austin is where he signs. Former Cibolo Steele 5-star and Texas-Ex RB Malcolm Brown approves of this message.

    Per HD:
Mark Jackson is one of the top defensive end prospects in the state of Texas. [At Texas Junior Day, the] defensive staff did a wonderful job explaining the “Fox” position to Jackson and what his role will be with the team. Jackson also enjoyed spending time with new defensive line coach Brick Haley. Texas will be in the mix until the end with Jackson and his family.

Jackson could turn into one of the top speed rushing defensive ends in the country before his senior season is finished. He has great lateral movement down the line, legit speed, athletic ability through the roof and uses his hands well.

    Per TFB:
Earlier this week I spoke to a source close to 2016 DE/OLB and Texas A&M commit, Mark Jackson (Cibolo, TX) who said that Jackson’s parents are not necessarily sold on him going to Texas A&M. The source said that Jackson’s father wants his son to end up at Texas.

I spoke to Mark yesterday and he informed me that in January he plans on taking three official visits, one to Texas A&M, one to Texas and one to Oklahoma.

    — I spoke to a source that said an influential family member playing a key role in the decision process does not want Cibolo Steele defensive end Mark Jackson to end up at Texas A&M, where he is currently committed. The four-star prospect will officially visit Oklahoma and Texas next month.

Some think Jackson is trending towards ou. His 3 OV's will be Texas next weekend, aggy the next, and ou last. Not a good order for the Good Guys.

How you feeling about him now? Still an OU lean? :hookem:

Yes. But, we gittin' eerbody, so there's that.

Seriously, I wouldn't be surprised if he goes ou. The sticker in this is Fowler - some say Texas is recruiting both guys for the same position, so if Jackson chooses ou it means that he knows/believes we're getting Fowler. Others say we're not planning on using them in the same spot.

Eh, we have 2 DEs committed already, and I have trust that Omenihu will break out sooner or later.

Not trying to sunshine pump, it's obviously never fun to lose one to the gooners or to aggy, but it's not the worst miss in the world. I did think it was funny though when he said it was better for him academically if he didn't go to Texas A&M.

Good luck to the kid, I hear he's a good pass rusher

I'm thinking he may not be a very good student, and doesn't think he could stay eligible at Texas or Texas A&M. I wonder how going to OU is better for him and his family ??? Is the family from Oklahoma ????

He is QUICK !!!! Quickest first step for a DE I've seen in a long while. No way an OT can handle that...

So if the Longhorns end up ranked in the mid-20s for recruiting, was Charlie successful? I know people are going to say we won't know until these players get here, but the reality is that these player may not play until two years from now. I think Charlie needed to get in the top ten to top fifteen range for me to say he was successful. Again rankings aren't everything, but I just don't think Charlie is going to have the luxury of seeing whether these guys were underrated or not if he wins only 6 or 7 games next year. The pressure will be on him next year to win at least 8 games.

Star ratings sell online magazine subscriptions they do not tell you if a coach is successful.
