I enjoyed taking in my third spring game with fellow Hornfans and dear friend WorsterMan. You sure could not beat the weather. And the trip to Scholtz Garten was a first for me. When I saw my plate I mentally exclaimed " jambalaya" ala Neuman on Seinfeld! Ha Ha

I was really pleased to see the fast first step that Jerrod Heard had when he ran the ball. The OL did a nice job of sealing off the left side and he waltzed through it. His throws for the most part were nice tight spirals that left his hand quickly. What impressed me the most was when he rolled out to his right he was moving FORWARD at a fast clip and was STILL searching for an open receiver downfield. He froze the defense with that move. He is a much bigger threat to break off the big gainer with his legs than Swoopes. But Swoopes is a sturdier guy and if I needed just a couple of yards I would give him the edge to convert on a short yardage third down conversion. I like Charlie's approach in not naming a starter. At this point it's still a horserace. And let's not drive him nutz if he decides to use both. Heard shows good attitude and maturity and wants to compete. The big thing in all this is that the DYNAMICS of the zone read will change. Last year we were left with ONE usable quarterback to complete an entire season after the injury to David Ash. Needless to say, common sense dictated that we could not put the quarterback in harms way running the ball. This year we will have two ready when season starts, so that when running the zone read we will be able to actually RUN the ball. Of course our base offense will be a spread offense with two backs set using "up tempo" no huddle pace. Got to run. Will break down the other positions later.

Texas George: good analysis of your opinion of the QB position on Sat.

However, I fear you are starting to lose your edge. For example you did not mention the photo you got of EARL, what a truly awesome HF admin & guru Dionysus is, how great the Chaps Girls looked or how perky the co-ed cheerleaders were.

I expect you to reconcile this in your later posts.:hookem:

@WorsterMan we at least have to give him credit for coming down all the way from Tulsa. That was a boss move.

OK, TG you showed there is true credibility behind your Longhorn card coming all the way from Tulsa for the spring game!

I appreciate your optimism, Baok, but I'm not sure we saw any QBs that "will be ready to play starting next season". Still hoping for a proven entity to transfer in next month so we don't have to go into the Dome with possibly less than we had to start out last season.

Not to mention anyone who can get a bunch of all star okies to sign the inside of a Longhorn hat signed by Texas studs on the outside is pretty clever and opportunistic. Kudos!
