2015 TE Devonaire Clarington could/not be MIA (updated 5-1)

2015 TE Devonaire Clarington may not make it to UT until 2016. His qualifying issue seems to be turning bad. There's nothing substantiated yet, so this is just a heads-up, wish-I'd-seen-this-coming post.

Per an OB poster:

Clarington's issue has always been the transcript and trying to get it through the clearinghouse. That was going to be the challenge. Texas took a gamble on Clarington because sometimes those things fall your way, but by no means was it ever a guarantee he would make it to campus.

Both Horns247 and HornsDigest are now saying Devonaire Clarington won't qualify. Higdon is saying the reports/rumours are accurate. Jeff Howe mentioned that Texas might try to get him back after a year of prep school and/or try a sign-and-place with a junior college.​

 

I think we had the feeling this was a highly probable....it sux though.

 

He may make it after all...

 

This is good news. Worst case he joins in Jan if certain courses are not counted by clearinghouse?

 

That'd be my guess. Probably go juco in the Fall - not sure how all that works, though.

 

So, he comes to Austin in the summer for classes, but may not make the team in the Fall if NCAA doesn't clear his HS classes? At which point he goes to community college (not JUCO)?

 

Sounds like he has the grades, but will NCAA accept the courses?

Dunno myself. Just thinking out loud.

 

Hopefully he can make it. A great TE helps give a, even if struggling, QB a nice security blanket.

 

We need him. I think he'll make it.
