It seems to me that the "new" group of posters here are a little less prone to flame so, I'll try this question again. There was a case of a high school team faced with winning and ending their season, losing and advancing in the playoffs. After you say "that can't happen" It happened. After you say "that's not right" realize that was the reaction of most of us at the time. It was a case of a split district. Somehow by beating the other team (who I don't think could advance either way), the standings became so changed that the team then wouldn't advance.
That's kind of what I'm looking for. The more I think about it, I don't believe I was on the net when this happened.
The clear answer, if what you outlined is absolutely true, is to lose in order to win. Many examples in life where you can lose the battle to win the war.
