Where were you on January 4, 2006?

A few of us got together at the spring game recently and afterwards we were talking about the MNC game and where we were, what we were doing, going crazy with friends or family, etc. We thought it would be a good idea for a thread to see what everyone's experience was like. Damn you offseason.

If you were at the game, I hate you try not to rub it in too much.

We had a little game-watching party at the house and my wife made a cake and other goodies for the occasion. She’s so awesome.

When I got to the office the next morning someone on my staff had taped the newspaper to my office door. It was a pretty cool greeting.

There was a lot of burnt orange attire in the building that day. I went to visit a few aggie coworkers to just, you know, say good morning and see how their day was going. My day was starting out pretty good so I wanted to share that warm feeling.

    What's your story?

I was flying with my wife to the Mayo clinic. I got to see some of the 1st half in the DFW Airport. When we landed in Rochester I told the cab driver to haul ***. I got to see the last ten minutes of the game in our hotel room. It was a perfect ending, made even more perfect for me that I was able to see it at all.

Great off season thread Dionysus. That cake your wife made was ALLSOME!

Days leading up to the game, me and a couple of Horn buddies wanted to watch the game on the biggest screen we could find. Somehow we settled on B.J.'s Brew House in Plano with about 50 other Horn fans and a few SC fans.

We started watching the ESPN pre-game sometime between 4-5 PM... sipping adult beverages and talking about the matchup. ESPN and it's pundits mostly praised and picked SC - at times it was nauseating. However, I believe Lee Corso did pick UT to win.

I won't reprise the game, but despite my confidence in VY's amazing ability to rally and create magic, I admit I was very concerned when SC went up 38-26 with about 6 minutes left.

    :vy: LIGHTNING STRUCK!!!

ALL the UT fans were yelling, jumping up and down, hugging and high-fiving each other. I remember as the game ended, I yelled as loud as I could:

"TAKE THAT ESPN!! VINCE YOUNG AND THE TEXAS LONGHORNS JUST STUCK YOU IN THE EYE!!!

I later went home and watched ESPN over and over again until about 4 AM until I fell asleep.

I watched at home and some Longhorns buddies came by to watch. I was sot too concerned when SC went up 38-26 because VY was on his game. The defense was the worry with two DB injured. We stayed up till 3am afterward celebrating.

Anyone remember the SC cheerleader jumping up and down when we got the two point conversion to make it 41-38? There was a thread about her afterward. That was hilarious!

I was sitting in the Rose Bowl end zone, a few rows below the scoreboard. Only game I ever attended which rivaled the '69 Arkansas game in Fayeteville.
Walking in to the game, approaching the gates, a guy walked towards me. I was a few feet in front of my wife, then my cousin and his wife followed. The guy quietly said, "I'll give you $1000 each for your tickets." I shook my head no, and didn't mention it to my wife.
About a year ago, I was with my cousin and the wives, and I finally told the story of the guy offering the money for the tickets. My cousin said, "must have been the same guy who walked past me and offered me $1200 apiece!"
We were both glad we refused the offer, never seen such a demand for tickets.
I got lucky and just squeezed in under the Longhorn Foundation limit to get the tickets. I wasn't expecting to get them.

That game and the Michigan Rose Bowl the year before were the best game I can remember, and I've seen a lot. In 2005 game Dan Fouts was the color guy and VY dropped back to pass, the pocket collapsed, Vince escaped and sored running through or around several tacklers, Fouts just kept sayin "NO!....NO!....NO!" He couldn't believe it.

The 2006 NC will always be my top favorite, even more than the 1970 Cotton when we beat Notre Dame to win DKR's second NC. That one is my #2.

Because of the rain that week, parking on the golf course was either very limited or there was none. Couldn't get a ride after the game to anywhere but Old Town Pasadena. where there were zero cabs. Walked to Hilton on Colorado Blvd to get a cab. Those are long damn blocks.

Sitting in between two groups of USC fans with my brother in the rose bowl. The USC fans on our right were classy and great fans. They shook our hands after the game and told us great game. Had great conversations with them throughout the game. They were very knowledgable. The USC fans on our left were not classy or great fans and could not name any player other than reggie bush. Behind us there were also USC fans who claimed not to be USC fans at first, then admitted they were when they thought they were going to win, then left the game early.

At halftime, waited in line beside the late James Street for the bathroom. He was as excited as me about the game. If Jimmy Street thought it was a great game, then who can dispute it? I know we all have burnt orange glasses, but easily the greatest college football game ever.

    It was a great decision!!

Same one I would have made at the time.

Can you imagine that you traveled all that way to witness that game... a NC and you took the money, as tempting as it was and ended up watching in some uncomfortable, underserved & crowded bar full of SC fans in Pasadena or Burbank?

You would hated yourself for a lifetime if you were not at THAT game.:hookem:

Sitting in the opposite end zone from where VY did his magic but could see it very well. Was at Michigan game there the year before as well. For this Rose Bowl a few of us flew to Vegas and drove to LA for the game. Great trip all around with fantastic people. The year before 4 of us packed into a Dodge Ram Pickup and drove. A Hornfan won hotel room and tickets. Another great group of guys and an epic trip as well. The capper was the Horns winning both years in a row.

I think I called Worster from Pasadena. I am pretty sure I did. Did I?

Moved to Chicago area just before the Michigan Rose Bowl (as got to the house ~3 hrs before the game). We took the TV with us instead of sending with the movers to be sure we could watch the game. Was in the same house in Glenview, IL watching the NC game a year later. Going into work the next morning was challenging ....

And to put he game into perspective, view the accomplishments of that USC team ...

Accurate +1. At both games, and Pasadena was much better than Fayettnam.

Woke up in Vegas, drove to Pasadena, attended a sporting event, it might have been the greatest football game ever. Seats were I kid you not provided by Pete Carroll and were in the USC faculty section, we got to see VY run in the fourth and goal right in front of us. Yes, I was one of the lucky ones.

I was deployed to Qatar and the base showed the game on the movie theater screen. I got lucky and did not have to fly that day and was able to catch the whole game in all of its glory!!

30 rows up, dead center of the goal post. Perfect weather, perfect game, perfect singing of The Eyes afterward. An old roomie lived in L.A. and gave us a ride to the game with the cousin of one of USC's starting corners. He didn't have tickets, but hung around the stadium and watched it on T.V. outside. After the game, we floated on air back to the car, and he revealed the stash of champagne he brought just in case we had a reason to celebrate. The corks were flying on that golf course for quite awhile. Flying back early the next morning from LAX, the airport security opened up a separate metal detector line and announced that it was for use by all National Champion Texas Longhorns! The pilot welcomed all National Champion Longhorns on the plane over the intercom. I was hoarse for four or five days afterward.

I was at the bar in the Pappasito's Restaurant on the South Loop in Houston. Had a business dinner with my boss and 2 guys from a mill we buy pipe from. We had agreed to break it up early so we could get home to watch the game, but ended up at the bar. We had an astronomical tab, but it was worth every penny. The bartender was an aggy fan, when VY ran it in, I thought he was going to start crying.

I can't take credit for that one - SpiderAg is credited with that HF word.

Check on the Classics boards if your not familiar with his threads... priceless stuff. For example, check out: "Why the Cotton Bowl Should Never Be Renevated" or "ahhh, it's dun started".
