Can we have a separate forum to bash Steve Patterson?

Legitimate criticism has a place here and we can welcome that. It’s part of what we do as fans who care about the UT programs. What we don't need is the caustic personal assaults on people. If you have a critique of the job someone is doing, make a case for it, as many posters here do very well. But comments like "Patterson sucks!" without any rationale is weak. We can do better than that.

@mchammer -- when I wrote above "If you have a critique of the job someone is doing" I was not referring to you personally, I meant if "anyone" here has a critique... don't know if that was clear but I wanted to clarify that it was not directed at you.

    D,

You could fund it, and probably turn a profit by charging people in Portland and Arizona to use it. Maybe even sell advertising to KornFairy :hookem2:

Not sure it's getting old when SP is still conjuring new controversial actions with regularity.

I wonder how much of this is Patterson's own agenda or one that he was specifically hired to pursue. Meaning, are the controversial actions laid at his feet or at those of the University administration dictating the AD's strategy?

Maybe it doesn’t matter but I think it is an important distinction when laying blame for things we don’t like. Greg Davis got a lot of abuse for his predictable play-calling, but if Mack was forcing the hyper conservative approach then maybe GD was better than he got credit for.

    Just speculatin'

    8,

Take a look at the track records of Greg and Patterson, and the body of work each has put together. I don't think there is any question about the answer to either. Greg's track record at Tulane, UNC, Texas, & Iowa are all similar, with the exception of the mandate to "let Vince be Vince".

Patterson's history at Portland and Tempe speaks for itself, once he wasn't basking in the glory of his father's accomplishments.

Fair point, Sabre. I'm not familiar with those histories so that's why I asked.

If money was the answer, the LHN money (which no team in the Big XII has) should have given us a competitive advantage on the field. It simply has not done so.

Selling t shirts in Mexico will not have a direct impact on winning football games either. Just because you can doesn't mean you should.

Last time I checked, we did not have a "brand recognition" issue.

True, but I suspect that winning and profiting are both seen as separate but valid goals in their own right.
The Texas brand is as strong and well-known as any. Alabama, Florida State, Notre Dame, USC, Ohio State, Michigan - who has a more high profile name? Nobody. Texas is there.

    1. I agree, less bashing of Steve Patterson and more bashing of Bill Powers. Bill Powers is the man that chose Patterson over Luck. I assume because Luck is not a stooge.

    2. Greg Davis runs the exact same offense at Iowa. The whole "Mack does not know anything about Xs and Os despite his bowl record and bye week records clearly showing otherwise and he just kept interfering" is one of many chip brown lies our fans bought. That narrative was always false. Who would ever accuse a head coach of "interfering." It's generally called "coaching" when everyone else does it. Again, our fans actually believe Mack was incompetent, which is truly amazing. Anyway, we hired the poor man's greg davis as our OC, so our current nonsense, no adjustment offense is not even as good as Davis's "wait until the 4th quarter for adjustments" approach.

    HTown,

Powers did not choose Patterson over Luck, but rather botched the Luck hiring by changing the deal at Saturday morning's interview. It was Oliver who said that wasn't the deal and informed Powers WVU was playing TCU in Fort Worth and he needed to get to Tarrant County. Luck is a class act with intelligence and principles. Bill?

You are correct about Greg. His offense was the same at A&M, Tulane, Mississippi Cow College, UNC, and Austin. Has made no adjustment at Iowa. As I've said long before Davis arrived in Travis County, "Greg is as predictable as an Alter Call in a Southern Baptist Church on Sunday morning. It's gonna happen, book it." I do think that Mack interfered, but Greg was "his boy" and he protected him to the nth degree.

I always wondered why mb didn't make changes to play calls. You could see opposing Ds adjusting depending on down and distance, especially when the tendencies were for the screen to the flats...got old.

Third and five, let's run a four-yard route.

    WorsterMan SEC here we come!!

    Greg Davis was the albatross.

Remember the opening play in many games? The 2 yard hitch to Roy Williams. I would post the little face throwing up but it is not option anymore, so :brickwall:
