I hope you all have grasped the obvious fact the OP is baiting by design. Feel free to look around at other threads/comments on highly controversial topics, they're usually started by the same person. Each and every one under this name are along these lines. It's kinda funny how so many have fallen hook, line, and sinker for it. That being said, spice these suckers up for the TG game to capitalize on extra national attention and recruits who dig that stuff. The days of "we're Texas and only want recruits who want to be here because of that" are over. Extra spice of some kind wins the day now. Loyalty is developed in college in many cases. Just leave my storm troopers out of this. And yes, I took another bite of the bait, already knowing it was a mirror lure.
the metallic longhorn decal made me tingle....can't imagine any more changes in my life....our uniforms are fine....it's our lack of wins that needs to change....then, our uniforms will be voted the best in CFB....like when Vince was sporting them....
It's definitely time to upgrade the brand and modernize the football unis ! I have to wonder how old most of you are that think ohh lets keep the unis the same for at least the next 100 decades . Times change and there's a need for it , get over it ! We can win and lose with old style and new style . Tradition is still playing football Texas tough and our fight songs ,band and fans ! Typical old men sometimes whine too much about change and fashion ,NEWSFLASH GUYS .... It happens even in the sports world !
Wanna know how old I am? GET OFF MY LAWN and I'll tell ya! Seriously, I think many wouldn't have a coronary with minor uni tweeks - after all, Texas has had them throughout the years. It's just the Oregon/OkieState/TCU over-the-top stuff that, while okay for those teams, doesn't "add" to UT's appeal. Kinda like USC, Bammy and other top-top tier programs.
DKR was asked about tricking out the unis and he replied no, those are work cloths. Good enough for Saint Royal, good enough for me. Keep our traditional uniforms. We have won many championships in those unis. I hated the new look in hoops. The new unis didn't help them much.
Anthony Wheeler (our incoming Frosh LB) summed up exactly why I think it's time to consider this a little more seriously... Wheeler said he knows well about the traditions associated with the Longhorns uniforms, but that he wouldn’t mind seeing a change or two here and there. “Maybe just some alternates (jerseys),” Wheeler said, “not change the uniform - even though I do like the black and charcoal (gray) ones I’ve seen (edits of) - but just maybe a thing here or there to give a new feel.” “That’s just it - look good, feel good,” Wheeler said. “I feel that way, and most of the guys I know - it’s if they look good, they feel good. Even if it’s just a feeling and has nothing to do with how good you play, it’s just something I’ve noticed.”Wheeler's a respectful young man with solid character. I guarantee the thoughts expressed above likely would be agreed with by the vast majority of HS recruits today. Alts are no longer a fad, they're very much the norm because the kids prefer it...or at least a taste of it. Some fans could swallow their 100% traditional pride for a game if it helps us lure even one extra recruit. Baby steps is fine. How about the t-day game with Tech? Wide audience playing the team that's known for shameless alt ploys.
Oh yeah...maybe the team could come out in camo, then the other team wouldn't be able to see our guys....put a check mark in the W column...
1. Those TCU unis look like kiddy jammies. 2. Oregon is not a "powerhouse" unless you're 17 and have no perspective. 3. Teams with similar college football pedigrees to Texas: Michigan, tOSU, Bama, OU. Notice any similarities in uniforms? 4. This was a classic offseason troll.
Who cares about bait? There are apparently actually some 'Horns who want the candied uniforms. If we are recruiting based upon the players preference for uniforms, it's no wonder we were 6-7 last year.
If a kid wants to play ball somewhere based solely on whether he gets multiple uniforms, do we really want someone that fickle in the first place? Whatever happened to going somewhere to WIN? And no, the various alts didn't come about because the kids wanted them...they came about because it brings in extra merchandising dollars. Does Texas have SO MANY brand issues that they have to redevelop the unis for the sake of continuing to overflow the war chest? I think not...
A common argument technique for the "never change the unis" crowd. We don't want anyone who is stupid enough to choose a college based on the uniform. I'd ask for actual evidence of this, or maybe even a quote from a recruit who based his decision on this, but we know those don't exist. The bottom line is that it's perfectly normal and acceptable for an 18-year-old to not only love a university, but love an alternate uniform as well. I'd say about half of the 6A high schools in the DFW area have alternates. The one in the west side of my neighborhood has three pants, three jerseys, and 2 helmet options. A little of Column A, a little of Column B. I don't think that one comes at the expense of the other. They're not mutually exclusive. If you honestly believe that players have said "no" to new or alternate uniforms, then you're privy to more than most. Yes... three of them have used alternates or uniform updates in the past couple seasons.
On an unrelated note. Does Heard look ripped or what? when you look that good you don't need an nike play uni to be cool.
Too many steerheads. I hope UA corrects that. That logo is iconic and powerful for its simplicty/symmetry/understatement. Making it into a collage dilutes its impact. While I'm a known traditionalist around here, I would fully support a modern alternate uni for one home game and one road game. Make it as Oregon as you dare. But just for those two games.
As far as new uniforms go, change the shirt or pants for home games. The only thing I ask; do not under any circumstance change the helmet or Storm Trooper away unis.
If we change ANYTHING, please let it be those god-awful (Wool??) band uniforms with the cheesy white "cowboy" hats? Would look so much classier if their uniforms more closely resembled something like the Texas Cowboys' style. Love our band, but those uniforms are BEYOND bad. **Leave the football uniforms alone, please -- TCU's look BAD...
How about chameleon gloves that appear to the refs like they are the uniform of the opponent. Also Linesman repellent unis for the coaches to keep the penalties at a minimum on the head coaches.
Leave the unis alone. The gimmicky stuff is just cheesy. Leave that to the Oregons and Marylands of the world.
Change the uni's???? That's so 2000's. Its 2015 dudes! Why not go all Boise State and paint the field burnt orange? I'm sure that would attract five stars from all 50 states!!!
