    ....and thought it was OK.

IMHO, too long to sit in a theater.

I didn't read the book, but readers could mark their places and take a break.

If viewed at home, I could have watched it on my own time schedule rather than having to see it during one continuous sitting.

So, as a rental I would probably have liked it better.

Lots of twists, plenty of red herrings and very dark.

Much like "Zodiac," this flick's slow pace and length make me recommend most folks should rent it.

I would have enjoyed it more that way, myself.

Rosamund Pike and Ben Affleck were very good and this slow thriller is worth seeing.

But the thrills came at the end and the length and the slow buildup all, I believe, lend themselves to home viewing.

Since it's almost out of theaters that's about all that's left for you anyway.

    JMO.

If you already saw it in a theater, never mind.

Fincher and the writer/s tried to create tension by hiding the ball repeatedly. What they accomplished with this viewer was confusing him with what he was watching. I thought I was watching a film about a loving couple and then one disappears; then it was about the hubby falling under false suspicion---or is it false? Repeated changes of direction left me baffled and it got to the point where I just gave up.

I thought the last thirty minutes were preposterous.

I thought Fincher's Zodiac was one of the best cop procedurals/mysteries I ever saw, so I was prepared to love this film.
    Didn't happen for me.

I just got around to watching this on DVD. I read the book so I knew the story. As for the movie, I found it kind of slow and not all that much suspense or tension (probably from reading the book). As you can guess, I wouldn't recommend the movie if you've read the book.
