Should Mack Brown be our AD in a few years?

OK, if the problem is that he raised ticket prices after paying Strong top pay too early then I can understand the frustration, but not the vitriol. Ohio State got a bargain, seems like. But Urban grew up in Ohio and always wanted to return to the peachiest job in that state.

Patterson may be making decisions that put the financial stability of the athletic department in jeopardy. If that is the case, then the vitriol is valid, and he needs to be closely watched. Its my understanding, though, that all salaries have to be approved by committees of various sorts, and cannot be unilaterally set by Patterson. Surely, he does not have the power, alone, to determine salaries and ticket prices. If so then he needs to be reigned in. If others are also responsible, then who are they, and lets hold them accountable too. :hookem:

I still dispute Strong made $5 mil last year with our mediocre season - maybe with bonus payments for a good year.

6-7, 59 yards of offense in the bowl game loss. Offensive coordinator not terminated. Strong and his coaching staff need to be gone after the 2015 season if there is second losing season, regardless of the cost.
Overpaid? Yes, Strong and his staff are overpaid. Whoever made the contracts should be terminated as well.

I think egos got in the way of hiring the right AD.

Would not want Mack as AD.

Strong is on a Honeymoon period right now... everyone thinks he's a stand-up dude with lots of potential... But we have a tough schedule next year... we could do great, but realistically we could lose 5 games and have little progress... if that's the case, these big money contracts to unproven coaches will look that much more ridiculous and overpaid. I know Strong did great with his last team, but he had ZERO pressure to perform... he didn't have TEXAS on his shoulders... that's a heavy burden to carry. Steve P could look pretty bad if Strong shits the bed.

I guess we really do not know without Charlie Strong's income tax return, but everything I find says $5 million is the base. Mack Brown was set to make $5.5 million in 2014 according to the article, which is a lot, but the salaries of Brown or Barnes or Augie Garrido are a reflection of past accomplishments as they did not start there but earned them over time. Mack did not make $5 million until after the 2009 season.

Smart should be the 10th highest paid college basketball coach, but we will not know for certain until next year's list is published.

The most Barnes ever made was $2.4 million.

Augie makes $1.04 million according to some sites, but they did not seem reputable enough to post a link. This statesman link just says he makes over $1 million. College baseball coaching salary information is hard to find. The LSU coach made just under $800K in 2013. I am sure Augie is either the highest paid or among the highest paid. That said, he is the winningest coach of all time, won two national titles, is coming off a 3rd place finish at the CWS, and just won the Big 12 Tournament so there is a lot to back his salary up.

Here are the assistant salaries for Sabrehorn. Interesting that Bedford makes so much relative to the offense since Strong is hands on with the defense and leaves the offensive coordinators alone. Also, Shawn Watson is really cleaning up for the product we saw last season.

We finished 110th out of 125 in total offense last season. We finished 106th in scoring offense last season out of 125. Watson is the 27th highest paid assistant on either side of the ball and has free rein with the offense. Better get some improvement there this season (which should not be hard given where we were in 2014). (Texas finished 65th in total and scoring offense in 2013.)

Highest Paid Offensive Assistants 2014: (Offensive coordinator unless stated otherwise)
    1. Cam Cameron LSU $1,315,967
    2. Chad Morris Clemson $1,301,250
    3. Mike Norvell Arizona State $901,560
    4. Doug Nussmeier Michigan $830,000 (fired)
    5. Noel Mazzone UCLA $762,000
    6. Tom O'Brien Virginia $751,500 (Not actually offensive coordinator according to Virginia. May be a Wickline-Watson situation, but I do not know enough about Virginia Football to know. Kept him on the list since he is an offensive assistant either way.)
    7. Adrian Klemm UCLA $723,000 (Offensive line coach)
    8. Tim Beck Nebraska $715,281 (now at Ohio State)
    9. Kurt Roper Florida $700,000 (fired)
    10. Lane Kiffin Alabama $680,000
    11. Frank Wilson LSU $650,000 (running backs coach)
    11. Shawn Watson Texas $650,000
    11. Garrick McGee Louisville $650,000

Another point of contention. I do not know that Harsin or Applewhite were bad assistant hires. Greg Robinson was not bad either. Manny Diaz seems to be the one really bad hiring decision on Mack Brown's part. It's not like he was only hiring bad assistants or something at the end.

    HTown,

I'm not nearly as pissed about the pay of the assistant coaches receive as the three year full guarantee. Who does that? Only desperate programs that cannot attract quality assistants. Not a single guy on this staff that would not have taken the job for a year to year contract. That just ups KornFairy's cut.

As for Tom O'Brine at UVA, he said in an interview, "I only have five players to coach." Those are kickers. not QBs. They paid him $500,000 to get a coach on staff that had actually done something during his career.

Wow, I was not aware our assistants had a 3 year guarantee.... wow!

Too my knowledge that never happened prior to Patterson. Totally ridiculous, as are their salaries. So, go fire Charlie String and his five year guaranteed salary and then his staff with each having three years guaranteed. - NICE! and speaks highly to Bellmont's business savvy.
