Brandon Jones ..... Nacogdoches (Nacogdoches, TX)
    :hookem::hookem::hookem::hookem:-horn ..... S ..... 5-11.5/193 ..... TEXAS

    Per Scout:
It's no secret as to why colleges want Jones. He can tackle, cover ground and at times make the big play in the pass game or in run support. On tape, he shows a wide array of skills. He is very aware and has a physically imposing presence. He plays under control, limiting mistakes. That shows great poise. He chews up a lot of ground, whether it is coming down hill to make a tackle in run support or covering laterally to help make a tackle.

    Per SB Nation:
On film, college coaches have said that they like the speed of Jones and his ability to close on the football from his safety position, as well as his hands, which allow him to finish plays with interceptions.

Once thought to be a heavy NeverWillBees lean, the recent scuttlebutt says it looks to be a battle between Texas-LSU for the 5-star's services.

This kid is so highly thought of that, even though he only played five Jr season games because of a knee injury, the services have kept him as a 5 and schools are treating him as a must-get.

Everybody wants this kid. If we don't end up with him, we'll have come in a close second by the time NSD gets here.

He chews up a lot of ground, whether it is coming down hill to make a tackle in run support or covering laterally to help make a tackle. Jones has great body control, tackling ability and toughness. He is exactly what Charlie Strong, Vance Bedford and Chris Vaughn are looking for.

”I have a really strong relationship with coach Bedford, coach Vaughn, and Coach Strong I talk to all them at least 2-3 times a week,” Jones said. “Overall I feel like they are very well spoken coaches with the mindset that's going to get them where they need to be defensively and just overall as a team. The program itself like I said feels like it's going in the right direction. I love the stadium and facilities because everything you need is right there. You don't have to walk too far to get what you need and also burnt orange and white looks pretty good on light skin kids like myself lol.”

[He made an unofficial visit to Texas this past weekend and was impressed with what he discovered.]

”I learned a lot about the academic side," Jones said. I also was able to go in for a little film with coach Vaughn. I learned how their safety's played and how I could fit my game into the scheme they have."

“For sure. Texas will for sure be in it,” Jones said about his upcoming top-five.

On his recent visit to UT: “I’ve been to Texas before , but this was my first time actually going by myself so the coaches could actually take time to talk to me and show me around,” Jones said. “I had a really good time. I really like the coaching staff down there and the players as well. I just feel like the coaching staff, Coach Strong, he has the team going in the right decision.”

UT/A&M battle?: “Honestly, at first, Texas A&M was on top. That’s because they were my first offer and at the time, that was the only campus I’d ever actually gone to seen,” Jones said. “But going on some other school visits like Baylor, Alabama, LSU and Texas, it’s kind of opened my eyes. Once I start visiting other schools that I’m interested in, starting finding the pros and cons of each school, I’ll start narrowing it down from there.”

The Texas coaches are stressing to Jones the benefits of staying in state, both during his collegiate career and after. Jones said he likes that message, plus UT’s history of producing top DBs.

“They always tell me once a Texan, always a Texas. They want me to stay in state. Texas has been struggling in the past years, but they can never have too many DBs,” Jones said. “And just their background with producing safeties to the next level. Their coaching as well – they can really back up what they say. I keep that in mind.”

Jones is not planning on attending the UTL camp, but he did say he’s struck up a friendship with guys like Kris Boyd and Holton Hill and he feels he can pick their brain to get honest answers on life as a Longhorn.

Per a poster on another site:
    From: Justin Wells

The positive vibe following UT's big win over Oklahoma has continued this week. At first I thought it was negative that the team couldn't get right back on the field this Saturday to build on the momentum, but the staff hit the road this week looking to yield positives with appearances. Let's rock.

    BRANDON JONES

The Nacogdoches 5-star was just introduced as an Under Armour All-American this week. Another honor for the #bEASTtexas safety.

"It's a crazy feeling being an UA selection," said Jones. "To actually see it, feel it, hold it, get that jersey in my hands is remarkable."

It's vindication of years of hard work and sacrifice. Jones is one of the most highly coveted safeties in the nation for a reason; he works hard and has insane talent. He still hasn't decided where he'll take his five official visits, but he knows two things; he wants to visit out-of-state and wants one of his officials in Austin. As a mater of fact, his only in-state.

"Texas is definitely up there," said Jones. "I want to use my officials for trips out of state, so that I can travel, and see places. Ole Miss, Oregon, Alabama, Ohio State, and LSU are who I'm choosing from for officials away from Texas."

If Strong/Vaughn/Traylor can get him on campus, it's a 50/50 shot. I think it comes down to two schools in the end - Horns and Aggies. Coach Vaughn will be in Nacogdoches tonight for Jones' game. One thing he noticed was the team coming together at the right time.

"Texas has come a long way this year," Jones said. "They had two close losses because of special teams, but they're getting better. It was all realized beating OU. They're playing lots of freshmen, so you know they'll only get better. The OU win was a game-changer for sure. I want to take most of my official visits out-of-state. The only in-state OV will probably be to Austin."

    That's huge.

Again, this is a 2-horse race. How Texas finishes 2015 will ultimately determine where Jones lands, IMO. Until the OU win, it was looking like A&M for his services. But not so fast, my friend. Brandon's recruitment will go to NSD. He wants to make absolutely sure he makes the right decision. Just like in the Kris Boyd saga, the longer he's not committed to A&M, the better UT's chances.

Brandon Jones and Deontay Anderson trying to team up

Jones (#1 S per 247) said he hopes to go to the same school as Manvel, Texas safety Deontay Anderson (#3).

Jones -- “He’s my best friend. We plan on going to college together. We balance each other out. As you can see he’s the silly one and I’m the mature one.”

A source said the Texas head coach has made things very interesting with Nacogdoches five-star safety Brandon Jones. Considered a Texas A&M lean, Jones is taking a closer look at the Longhorns and will make his official visit Jan. 15.

Jones’ father passed away, and the source said Strong has done a tremendous job serving as a father figure during the recruiting process. He added that Jeff Traylor is also keeping Texas in the thick of things.

One the country’s most sought after recruits, Jones has trimmed his list to Baylor, Oregon, Texas and Texas A&M — the latter two programs seem to have a sizable lead on the former two. Once considered a Texas A&M lean, the race for his services has tightened up as Texas has made a strong push over the last month. Jones had this to say when asked to compare the two schools.

“They share a lot of the same things, honestly,” Jones said. “I’m really big on family and atmosphere, and I feel at home at both schools. Both schools also said I could get early playing time. The only advantage would be A&M being a little closer to home. A big concern with Texas A&M is the two quarterbacks transferring out. There has to be reasons why. With Texas, they didn’t win like they were supposed to this year. But with Texas being such a young team, they are going to get better.”

Texas head coach Charlie Strong is known for being a great closer late in the recruiting process. He landed Malik Jefferson last cycle, and this year’s most coveted jewel might be Jones. Strong has personally recruited Jones, who said he’s impressed with how honest and real he is.

“What stands out to me is how he talks to me, my mom and my brothers about more than just football,” Jones said. “He really wants me to become a better man and have a great life outside of football. He’s really like a father figure.”

Texas assistant and fellow East Texas native Jeff Traylor has also been hard at work on the trail and is playing a big role in Jones’ recruitment.

“I enjoyed it when he came to my house,” Jones said. “He’s a great guy. He’s an East Texas guy. He’s coached high school football, so he understands recruiting. He doesn’t just say what you want to hear. He keeps it real. You kind of want to stick with East Texas guys.”

Jones is scheduled to make his official visit to Texas on January 15. He made his trip to Texas A&M earlier this month and is planning trips to Oregon and Baylor but has no dates set.

I don't know how much to believe this poster as he hasn't been around very long, but here's what he posted on another site:

Apparently Brandon Jones is a silent commit to Texas, I know a GA at Texas and that's what he told me, I'm just a messenger but this guy is a friend of mine so I doubt he'd give me bad info.

    Hope it's twoo, it's twoo!

It will be interesting to see where we send Traylor
We have a handful of good recruiters, but he is the best
We sent our best to Jones first thing
    Who is next?

    Per TFB:
Brandon Jones and Deontay Anderson – The exact quote I received on Jones was, “Brandon Jones is sold”. I’m told it’s pretty much a done deal with Jones (though it isn’t over IMO till he announces it out loud).

Apparently Jones and Anderson spent time with Dyland Haines and went over some defenses. Coaches told them that with guys like them (Jones and Anderson), “we can stay in our base defense and stop anyone.”
