    Per OB:
A few notes from around the football team's summer workouts:

    - I mentioned on the board that DE Derick Roberson "was out with the defensive guys" - at least on Tuesday of this week. This is a terrific sign as it means Roberson is likely going to come into fall camp free of restriction caused by the injured shoulder which kept him out of spring ball.

    - LB Malik Jefferson "looks amazing," per one source and continues to impress per numerous others. Jefferson is not only shining in summer workouts, he's come into player-led drills with the attitude of a leader and taking responsibility for getting guys lined up and set as well as getting every rep he can squeeze out of the on-field time with teammates. "(Jefferson) takes more reps than anyone (on defense)," one source said. In fact, the source said "he (doesn't care), he'll try to jump in at safety or corner and work on guarding receivers like a DB, he's a freak."

    - I asked a few sources who seemed like the defense's biggest leader was and was a little bit surprised to hear everyone one of them mention LB Tim Cole in some way. Cole was moved into the first group this spring at Mike thanks to a Dalton Santos injury. "People forget about Cole," one source said when I asked how the young freshman LBs were looking. "Have you seen (Cole) lately?" The source asked, "He learned how to lead in practice by seeing (close friend Malcom Brown)."

    - I asked one person - who, besides Malik Jefferson, was a true freshman that everyone needed to keep an eye on from the defensive side of the ball and he said "we won't know til pads go on but if I had to guess I'd say (safety Deshon) Elliott."

    - I asked how S Jason Hall was looking and one person said he's "locked in" and that "he'll be a more focused player" in 2015 than he was a freshman in 2014. "He's looking like a grown man," the source said, who also mentioned Hall had changed his hair style to corn rows.

    - I asked if CB Bryson Echols was going to get a shot to start and the same source said, "He's making strides and working to get better," which likely means that Echols will have some work to do in fall to overcome Antuwan Davis and become the starter opposite Duke Thomas in the Texas secondary. I think Greg Robinson liked Tim Cole, and put him into the starting lineup for a game. Not sure what happened after that though.

If you haven't seen this Duke Thomas interview, it's worth a look.
