I didn’t watch but checked the highlights on ESPN last night. Our women hit something like four goals in the first 15 minutes. Boom.
I watched...yes they did!! and one was a kick at the midfield stripe (60 yards out) that went straight in over the goalie! Unbelievable!!
You should have! These women have amazing athleticism and heart. To be honest I don't watch a lot of women's sports because I find them boring, but soccer and volleyball are the exceptions. I'm glad that this match set records for US viewership. The USWNT is only getting $2 million in winnings, which is $33 million less than the German men's prize for last year's world cup. Obviously it's all based on ratings and sponsorship. Hopefully the ratings for international play will continue to rise here in the US, both for men and women. To me there is nothing cooler than seeing nations play against each other. It's why I love the Olympics so much. PSA: our USMNT play Honduras tomorrow at 8:30 in Frisco!
In all fairness, the US is the only country where women's soccer is a thing... In fact, its the only country where people actually care for Women's soccer... That's the reason why this World Cup match broke records on tv in the US... but nowhere else in the world had people watching... That also (partly) explains why FIFA pays so little to woman's champion teams... because FIFA is a world wide organization, not US... the other part is because FIFA is corrupt and misogynistic. That said, it would truly be a miracle if the US men's soccer team ever got to the WC final...
