Since he signed with Texas in February, Ronnie "Buck" Major has spoken with Texas offensive line coach Joe Wickline at least two or three times a week. These chats range from get-to-know-you conversations to shop talk, which is where Major hopes to make the biggest strides.

Major said he already has a very good idea of what plays the Longhorns run and what’s required of linemen thanks to the time he’s spent looking at the playbook over the recent months.

Wickline also gave Major a target weight of 315 for his arrival at Texas, and the 6-foot-6 tackle is maintaining his weight around 317. Major, already a massive prospect, only expects to improve once he enters the Longhorns’ weight program.

During the spring Major has worked with former Texas offensive lineman Thomas Ashcraft, who has become Major’s mentor. It’s a relationship that’s really benefited Major in his development.

“He’s just been teaching me to move my feet, get in a better stance,” Major said. “He’s just been helping me and working out with me to get ready for UT.”

With the help of Wickline and Ashcraft, Major is about as prepared as he could possibly be to enter Texas.

At 6-6/290, Ronnie Major is a prospect who has the frame and length that is highly desirable. He looks thin and has a verified weight right at 290 pounds in the winter of 2014. He has long arms and the look of a college offensive tackle. he has good flexibility and quick feet. He is a bit raw from a technique standpoint in pass protection and at times struggles with blocks on quicker players and will certainly benefit from some good years in a strength program.

I forgot how big this beast is. He'll have to adjust to facing bigger opponents, however.

Aggies say he is a grade issue. True?

Per HD, Major is currently taking summer classes and won't enroll at UT until July. That's too bad - he needs Soul Catcher's augmentation in a hurry.

NOTE: There is no talk, murmur or whisper of him reneging on his LOI.

The article didn't clarify, but his HS coach has stated that he's doing good with his GPA; now working on improving his test scores. So, my guess is he hasn't gradgeated yet.

Likely he graduated, but trying to meet NCAA acceptance standards.

    Per BON:
When the Texas Longhorns signed the No. 10 overall class in the 247Sports Composite team rankings back in February, the big question was whether all 28 signees would make it to campus.

So far, the answer to that question is to the negative, as there are currently four prospects who are not yet enrolled at Texas, according to Orangebloods' Alex Dunlap -- wide receiver Gilbert Johnson, tight end Devonaire Clarington, offensive tackle Ronnie "Buck" Major, and defensive tackle Du'Vonta Lampkin.

It's possible that [Johnson's] grades were not good enough to enroll, but there aren't yet any reports out as to why he's not on campus.

The issue for Clarington is more likely to be his GPA, as his ACT score is good enough, judging by a tweet that he posted several weeks ago and then deleted.

Per HD, Ronnie BUCK Major will move to ATX on Aug 5 - just in time for Fall Camp. This is big news 'cuz he's a big need at OT. Probably will RS, but...

On film, he definitely has technique habits to clean up...

High pad level before contact, showing his chest
Stops moving his feet often when run blocking
Stops moving feet when setting the edge in pass blocking
Habit of catching and shielding the defender instead of sustained driving on run blocks
Needs to add a hand punch upon first contact in pass blocking

Those are all things Wickline will sort out, but be prepared to give him a year to improve technique before expectations. The mobility, athletic ability, and aggression is there when he decides to use it. He does have the raw makeup to greatly succeed. If he works hard at technique and in the S&C program, Major could be a big-time OL performer in 2016.

Update on Ronnie "Buck" "BuckWang" Major via HornSports:

    8-12-2015 Update

Talked to Ronnie this evening and he told me he just finished up with his classes he needed to take. Said he would be at Texas soon.

I asked if he would be there next week and he said "Yes."

Says he is ready to join the team and he talks to the coaches frequently.

Also tells me Huntsville should be good this season since they still have a lot of talent.

Great news. We need him in 2 years.

    WorsterMan SEC here we come!!

    Yup, great news.

Shirt him, get him in the weight room with Moorer, let him fully absorb the playbook and he can potentially start contributing as early as 2016.
