I'm I the only one who thinks he's lying about his cell phone?

Am I the only one who thinks it's BS the team and player has been penalized for something almost all (if not all) QB's do or have done sometime during their career? Add or remove air to fit the preferred grip or feel. It's rediculous this is still a conversation.

I hope the 4 game suspension is upheld.

If it's delayed because of his court case I hope it's settled at playoff time and he's suspended for the playoffs.

I don't know why athletes just don't come clean, like the steroid folk, or even when pitchers say, "I didn't mean to throw at his head". The fact that they all cheat is reason to admit it, not keep lying.

I would have more respect if one of them said, "Hell yea I threw at that punk's head/shot roids/deflated the ball! That's how I roll!"
I would respect that. That would be refreshing!

I remember when Roger Clemens threw broken bat at direction of Mike Piazza in the world series and people believed him when he said he thought it was the ball. Seriously? I know he's a Longhorn but really? A guy at work told me the next day that I obviously never played baseball before because to confuse a baseball bat with the ball "happens". I asked him if that was the case, then why didn't Clemens throw the "ball" to first base? I've never seen a pitcher have a ball hit to them and then try to hit the runner with it like elementary kickball.

It's okay to callout even our favorite athletes. Thats all I'm saying. It's not a sin, like masturbating.

I don't understand why the Patriots feel like they need an advantage. It seems like they've been on top forever. It's not like they're perennially in the bottom of the conference like the Oakland Raiders lately.

Maybe they all cheat maybe not. There was evidence of texts between Brady and the deflators and destroying his phone just about proves that. Did the Pats need the advantage? How many of you know they led the NFL in fewest fumbles for I believe four years. Is that an advantage? This was not a one game deal they were probably doing it for years. The crap Brady and his lawyer have been dishing up makes me really hope the suspension has to be served. Yea the playoffs would be a good time.

If the organization had not been caught for cheating the times before they would have been given a warning. They are cheaters (for some unknown reason) so the league stepped on them.

"I don't think I cheated" is all you need to hear. Nobody without knowledge of a specific act would say "I don't think..." if asked about it. Those words were chosen carefully in case he got caught red-handed. Like if the equipment guy rolled over. He left himself wiggle room by not firmly saying he didn't do it.

Then you have consoling texts to "The Deflator". Then the broken phone and switch to a new manufacturer so SIM card won't transfer info. The odds of all these things being mere coincidence would be greater than winning the lottery.

He may not have wanted the balls deflated below regulation psi minimum, but they certainly were deflating with his knowledge, which is still tampering with balls.

If he'd have claimed innocence but agreed to accept his suspension just to get the focus back to football, people would've let it slide in less time than most assume. Many would have felt he paid his dues.

The lasting legacy hit will occur when he fights it and if it gets reduced or dismissed. People have a much harder time forgiving noticeably guilty folks who weasel out of just punishment. I know I'll always look at him as a classless cheater if he doesn't serve the full four games.

If "everybody does it", how come the same folks keep getting caught? BTW, don't bother with this argument with an aggy or the OU brethren. Just sayin......

It appears Brady, a football player, will be held to a higher standard than a SOS or the head of the IRS.

Really? Going there? "I did not have sex with that woman." "There are weapons of mass destruction in Iraq." It is a not a strange world, it is a world inhabited by people who lie to obtain their goals. You are left to decide for yourself how you want your kids to perceive you. Are you a person who abhors liars, or are you a person who lies to yourself when you say "everyone does it" or "I don't think I cheated."

Brady knew and requested the ball deflation and then thought no one could prove it. The NFL likely knew ahead of time (according to what I heard on D. Patrick this morning) and elected to catch NE in the act instead of telling them the balls would be closely monitored. The whole thing is pretty stupid when you think about the time a federal judge could use on other things. The NFL needs to create a written policy that includes specific punishments. An equipment manipulation of any kind should result in a specific fine and sanction against a team and all players involved. The problem is that there are no uniform punishments so its always gong to be characterized as "they don't like me" no matter what.

I think it's less about Brady and more about taking the league to task. Trying to tell the public that deflated balls (which many, many QBs have admitted to) warrants the same punishment as multiple drug offenses or photographic proof of domestic violence just sounds stupid on several levels.

I think everyone is making way too big a deal out of this whole thing. I love watching the game, but I hate the BS drama around these kind of issues.

I agree with Longhorn Catholic on every point (except masturbation.)

Its less about the offense, and more about the lying and covering up about it
I also think Bellicheck knew everything. It seems like the Patriots have a process for cheating, and contingency plans for insulating themselves and and creating plausible deniability. The thing about plausible deniability is that while it protects them legally, etc, it only confirms that they are cheaters in the court of public opinion.

(which is probably just what the NFL wants, a WWE stage managed drama creating villains etc)

Unlike baseball, the NFL is trying to face attacks on the integrity of the game head on, with the notable exceptions being concussions. It's the Patriot's cheating history under Belicheck that set them up for these accusations. Had they simply admitted it and moved on this would have been a non-issue like any other organizational penalties. Atlanta was recently handed a HUGE fine for piping in noise, the Seahawks were limited to 1 day of hitting in mini-camp and many others due to violation of very specific rules. Those organizations simply admit they made a mistake and moved on with the punishment. It's the Patriots that push the rules then deny, obfuscate and generally lie. That's why the league is handling them more harshly because if the Pats get away with it other organizations will be incented to do the same.

When you catch somebody stealing your lunch from the fridge at work, a relative sneaking tools from your garage without telling you or your significant other mugging down with a guy in a bar, it's human nature to assume this isn't the only time they've ever done it.

Altering the balls is a big deal. It's such a big deal that employed men went way out of their way and took career risks to try to gain whatever advantage they sought.

The training guy knew if someone caught him doing it he'd be fired and never work in the industry again. Brady knew if it all came back on him he'd get in deep trouble. This was all common knowledge before they did it. Yet they still took the big risks. Apparently to them deflating the balls some was a big enough benefit to assume the high risks.

  21. f**k rules! Go back to leather helmets, no protective gear and jumbo footballs! I guarantee that will clean up the game. On many levels.

Unfortunately, I disagree. It looks to me like everyone thought the rule was there to break, everyone does it, it's not a big deal, I was only following orders.... I have seen no indication that anyone was afraid of getting caught until after they got caught. It looks to me that Brady considers himself above the rules, or at least so important, that he can chose which rules are little ones that he can arbitrarily break. I honestly don't give a **** what they do to him or the Patriots, but whatever it is, it needs to send a message that the NFL is still struggling with their role as personal behavior police, but on issues of competition and cheating, they know exactly what to do. If the game loses it's integrity, it's value in any other area is severely reduced. Who wants to listen to a bunch of cheaters tell kids to stay in school?

  23. Well said! The entire game is on slippery slopes right now. Unless drastic measures are taken on the animals that play the game, it will end as we know it. And then maybe go back to real FOOTBALL!
