My uneducated, fan boy opinion is that neither Oregon nor Baylor will play good enough defense to stay in the top 5 at the end of the season. Somehow, it doesn't bother me that TCU is having a good run, but Baylor's recent success rubs me the wrong way.

It doesn't surprise me that Texas isnt there, but when CS gets the machine purring it won't take long to bolt up the rankings.

Let's hope that after the games of 03 October TCU will not be #2 with a loss.

I pretty much feel the same, but the current scenario of Baylor and TCU being superior programs (and they clearly are) should have a huge fire blazing under the *** of every coach and player associated with UT Football. I hope it does.

Would be interesting to see how the numbers might have changed had the voters known Urban was about to suspend four starters for the VaTech game...

I don't think so. Having a superior "program" implies more than having the best current team; it requires being set up for success deep into the future. To be sure, Texas's program is experiencing a down period, allowing inferior programs to have more success in the short term. But like to think, and do think, that the best football program in the state is in Austin, as it always has been.

Right, I meant current team. Seeing both of them in the pre-season top 5 while the Horns are not even in the top 25 is nuts.

Only 3 SEC teams in the top 10? Is the SEC Love-fest finally weakening?

Covering their bases, but still better than 5 in the top ten.

I thought aggy would make the top two five for sure, based on how superior they are now. I guess they are still riding the sec coattail.

But no SEC teams in the top 1. That's refreshing.
