Lil'Jordan Humphrey ..... Southlake Carroll (Southlake, TX)
    :hookem::hookem::hookem:-horn ..... ATH ..... 6-5/199 ..... TEXAS

Lil'Jordan Humphrey got his name because his mother compromised with his brother who wanted to name him after Michael Jordan. However, it wasn't the name that allowed Humphrey to chalk up 1817 rushing yards and 283 receiving yards last season, it was his pure athleticism.

    Per HD:
May be best rated as an athlete, but you don't often see players in the mold of Humphrey who can play running back and still not look too big to do it at 6'4-6'5. It speaks of his athleticism overall that he is able to run with a consistently low pad level and cut and dash the way he does in the open field. He put up big numbers against some serious competition in the Fort Worth-metro. He could end up at a number of spots once he gets to college.

    Per Horns247:
At 6-foot-5, Humphrey looks more like a basketball player. But his athleticism is off the charts and his speed is solid too. He’s also a great receiver out of the backfield.

I haven't seen a prospect like that. Very odd height/weight. There's a lot of good things going on--hard to project a position; I just looked, and there was no RB in the combine this year over 6'2", and he's taller than the tallest RB I know of, Brandon Jacobs, but Jacobs carried 265 lbs. He almost has that Vince Young deceptive-tall-guy effect that freezes people trying to tackle him. Very comfortable with the ball. Maybe he puts on 25 pounds and becomes Jermichael Finley?

Seems to have good moves and open field speed. He can play somewhere.

Like the moves. His height make the speed deceptive. :hookem:

He's an interesting prospect. I can't imagine him playing out of a backfield in college, but watching those clips gives me hope for trick plays and creative playcalling.

If he's up to it, I'd have him redshirt, gain 20+ pounds under Moorer's supervision, and play him as an H-back and inside slot hybrid kind of guy.

    Per HD:
Lil’Jordan Humphrey... was very impressed with the message Charlie Strong provided earlier today.

”The vibe I got from Coach Strong is that he is all about making his guys into a better people and football players at the same time,” Humphrey said.

What was the overall message Humphrey took away from meeting with Charlie Strong?

”That they could make me grow as a person,” Humphrey said. “I would know how to deal with the real world and the connection I would make there would set me up for success once football is over for me.”

Quotes from Lil'Jordan Humphrey of Southlake Carroll after seeing UT on Saturday (OrangeBloods):

"Just talking to coach (Charlie) Strong, him breaking everything down for me," Humphrey said when asked about the highlights of the visit. "What type of players he needs for the program to be successful, how I'm that fit of player that he wants."

"I don't know if I want to play both (football and basketball) in college, so (Smart) came in and said I could both if I go to Texas," Humphrey said. "I've been thinking about (playing both sports) a lot. I don't know though. It's very difficult to do both in college, so I don't know if I want to do both yet."

"(Texas) is up there with those two (Cal and Wisconsin). I like all three," Humphrey said. "It just made my decision even harder on which school I want to go to."

    ------------

Smart move for Strong to bring Smart into the meeting. Options can be a good thing.

I think if Norvell gets the OC job next year, he will know how to use him effectively.

I've seen him play 3 times, and he will be the type of player that is very hard to defend.

Lil’Jordan Humphrey has been making players for the Dragons all year long. Though 7 games Humphrey has 718 rushing yards and 7 TD’s on the ground, he’s also a huge passing threat as he has 643 receiving yards and 6 TD’s through the air.

Texas likes him in a WR/H-Back type role and his 6’5 frame will create mismatches all over the field at the next level. Humphrey plans to take all 5 official visits and knows 4 of the schools he will be visiting officially. “Texas, Cal, Wisconsin, Texas Tech and I’m still deciding on the last one between 4 schools” Humphrey says. He says distance to home won’t play a role in his recruitment.

Texas HC Charlie Strong also stopped by to see Humphrey and his teammate and Texas commit Obi Eboh during the bye week so he knows he is a top target for the head man. I believe this one comes down to Texas and Cal, because Humphrey loves life out in Berkley, but Horns fans should feel good about this one.

Southlake’s Lil’Jordan Humphrey is a one man offensive machine. The big athlete can line up all over the field and make impacts in the run and pass game. That’s exactly what he did on Friday night as Southlake Carroll cruised to a 56-7 victory over LD Bell on senior night. Humphrey tallied three touchdowns rushing in the first half before exiting the game in the third quarter with the rest of the starters. With the regular season behind them, Southlake will now turn to playoff preparation and their huge first round matchup with Cedar Hill.

On the recruiting front Humphrey is still fielding a lot of attention. The Longhorns offered early for his services and are recruiting him as a receiver. He took an unofficial visit to Texas early in the season and the Longhorns are still very much in the hunt here. Humphrey told us he has not planned an official visit to Austin yet, but he is currently in the process of doing so. Humphrey wanted to make a decision around this time of the year, but his suitors are giving him a lot to think about. “It’s going good right now”, Humphrey said. “I have a top 5, but I’m just trying to keep that to me right now until the season’s over with and see who else offers and if I like those schools”. Humphrey doesn’t know when he will make a decision, but it will probably be after the season when he can sit down and think it over with his parents.

When he does make the decision, Texas will be one of the programs he discusses and most people think the Horns sit at the top of the list for Humphrey. So what is it about Texas that Humphrey likes?

“Great coaches, great school, tradition rich program. I’m able to play early possibly if I work my butt off”.

Texas has a natural recruiter within the Southlake program in cornerback commit Obi Eboh who is indeed doing work on the Longhorns behalf.

“Obi’s trying to get me there”, Humphrey told us with a laugh. “He’s real biased right now so I’m not trying to pay attention to him”.

The Dragons are expecting another deep playoff run, but if their season is ended early look for things to really pick up in Humphrey’s recruitment.

Obi Eboh and Lil’Jordan Humphrey: The Southlake Carroll duo of Texas CB commit Obi Eboh and ATH Lil’Jordan Humphrey plan to add to the list big time recruiting weekend of official visitors on December 12.

When I talked to Humphrey recently he said the only thing that would keep them from visiting that weekend is if Carroll is still in the playoffs at that time. Regardless of the date, they both still plan to officially visit Texas together.

Eboh continues to say he is 100% solid with his Texas commitment despite a recent visit to Oklahoma. Humphrey was actually close to committing right before the high school playoffs started to get it out of the way but when he wasn’t 100% sure where he wanted to go he decided to push it back. It continues to look like a Texas-Cal battle for him but with Eboh heading to Austin it seems like Texas will be the likely destination. I can’t wait to see the type of matchup nightmare Humphrey is at the next level regardless of where he ends up after he adds some weight to his long, skinny frame. – (Andrew)
