Caleb Kelly ..... Clovis West (Fresno, CA) 5-star ..... OLB ..... 6-3/215 ..... ou 247Sports Composite has Kelly ranked as the No. 2 outside linebacker in the country and No. 1 overall prospect in the state of California. He's a U.S. Army All-American. Per Scout: Kelly is one of those rare outside linebackers that can rush the passer, is strong against the run and drop back in to coverage. He has a great frame and as he continues to fill out and gains strength, he'll become an even more physical player. He's a high level athlete who roams around like a safety but projects as an ideal weakside 'backer at the next level. Very solid tackler and is beginning to play with more of an edge to him.
Star linebacker, Caleb Kelly (Fresno, CA) has just about every offer in the country and has held those offers for a while now. But it’s only recently that he picked up an offer from Texas. I had spoken to someone close to Kelly back in the spring and was told that Kelly was interested in a Texas offer. But with it being so late in the recruiting process I was operating under the assumption that schools like Oklahoma and Michigan were the clear leaders. That hasn’t necessarily changed in my mind just yet but, to my surprise, it sounds like Texas will get a chance to make an impression. Kelly let me know last week that he has not yet set any dates on his officials but did say that he does plan on using one of his officials to visit Texas. Got to believe that with the edition of coach Jay Norvell and his California ties that Texas may be on the verge of looking out West a little more moving forward. [Per a poster on another site]
Kelly said he really "isn't interested in taking an extra science class." And the Texas offer "came late anyway." For now, ou vs. Mich battle.
Well....better than him signing and having to take an extra class, then deciding to go elsewhere like we recently experienced.
