Please Lord let Heard win the starting job soon. Swoopes looked awful this game (and many others). I don't see how he can effectively run a zone read and add another dimension to our offense. He doesn't have the quicks or speed to make an impact there. At least Heard does give us that difference maker when running the football.

From what I've seen of Swoopes, he seems to be a might timid when he runs the ball. That or he appears to be in full blown panic. If he's anointed the starter, I hope he gets past those traits.

I think he has OK speed once he gets going, but I agree, I have never seen any initial quickness from him when pressured. He just seems to have a slow reaction to the game. I will hold out hope that he has worked on this aspect of his play. Everyone can improve.

Yes he has issues making people miss him, but his real issues are putting the ball on the ground and throwing it to the other team.

I think Tebow, Collin Klein and the Bell Dozer showed that if a QB is big and strong and can mount an effective passing game, he can run for significant yards even though he may not be all that fast. I think the key for those kind of QB's is the effective passing game.

At this point, Swoopes is not close to the mold of any of those 3 QB's. Granted he is big, strong and once he gets going he is semi-fast and not easy to bring down. Based on last season, his arm is fairly strong but I am not convinced he can mount a consistent passing game much less an effective passing game.

To me he has several challenges - all are very critical components for an effective QB (again based on last season). As some of you stated - he is NOT quick - he hesitates, he is too deliberate at times and slow reacting. His judgment and decision making are not quick and are very suspect at times. These must improve or he will not be much better than last season. Some of his challenges may be due to a lack of confidence or it may the "it" factor that has been discussed before.

I hope the experience he got last fall, the spring work and fall camp will have instilled some confidence in him. Perhaps he will have gained significant improvement in his knowledge of the offense and as a result execute plays better. If it does, maybe this will translate into him making better decisions and improved quickness.

The up tempo offense could prove to be a much a better match for him and his skills - we will see.

He may have been told not to run often last season, as we didn't have much in the way of reserve quarterbacks, with Heard red shirting. That could explain some reluctance to take off on a scramble or keep on the option.

This year there are no excuses left, it's execute or next man up. If the offense is going to improve, a quarterback has to step up. Hopefully the offensive line has improved enough to help the quarterbacks have time to make decisions properly.
