Nice find on Joyner and Alecia, Moooooo. Really hope we end up with Joyner. I agree with DFW_Horn, the more I read and see videos on Alecia, the more I am impressed with her as a player and person.

My goodness, I hope we are on her list. Her game sounds unbelievable.

After she de-committed from Okie State, it was reported that Amber's new list of schools included Texas, Texas Tech, TCU, and Washington.

But, our 2016 numbers may have changed with the Caron-Gourdreau addition(s).

Still, someone from our coaching staff was in Georgia potentially watching her (or other kids):

Brianna Turner was the kid who went there, but you are absolutely right, it is good that baylor didn't make her list. This is by far the most important recruit for Coach Aston and her staff since she's been at UT. We have to get her, there are really important things in our favor. One of her best friends is Jada Underwood, she also has good relationships with a lot of the girls on the team, including our other 2016 recruit Alecia Sutton. Obviously the most important thing is the proximity to home. Let me say it again, we have to get her, in my opinion she is the best player in the 2016 class.

Joyner will commit to Texas in September and Didi will recommit by after high school season. That's what i am hearing and i am hearing they are wanting to play together, that's why Didi has the same 3 schools on her list.

What's the saddest thing about the name mistake? I looked up Brianna on Notre Dame's roster because I was about to write Tucker but didn't think that was correct. Saw that it was Turner and then, within 30 seconds, wrote Murray instead.

Joyner is an elite player. I get the feeling if we land her signature that it will continue our good fortune with players in the Cy-Fair AAU clubs, as well as players in the metroplex.

Considering Joyner's versatility, it's hard to imagine someone better than Tina Thompson to learn from. One of, if not the best, power forwards to ever play the game.

Totally agree rattfatt. Not to long ago I was saying that she is the best player in 2016 and then someone who obviously hasn't seen her play was offended that she could be better than their favorite player. Nevertheless, I think Ariel and Brooke will eventually be regarded as Karen's most important recruits because they'll open doors to more high school All-Americans joining the program. Only time will tell but they remind me of the recruiting momentum Mack Brown was able to garner because of Chris Simms and Cory Redding signings.

You make some good points, Ariel and Brooke were very important to the program. They were the first big time recruits to buy into Coach Aston and her staffs vision for the program. Joyner would allow us to be perennial final four contenders, maybe even win a national championship. More than anything, she's from the state of Texas, and we have to get the best players from the state. The other reason why I think she's the most important recruit, is because as I said before, she has the potential to be a transcendent player. She is the kind of player that doesn't come along every year Brianna Stewart, Maya Moore, Candace Parker, etc.

Sure hope that Joyner decides to come to Texas. I thought that it was important to land at least one of the top players in the state. Given the need to for posts, I was hopeful that we would get at least one of Mulkey, Cox or Holmes, preferably at least two of them. While I really like Cox's game, Holmes seemed to fit well with our other 2016 recruits from watching them at the summer camp. Guess it helped that Jada is one of her best friends. We need that caliber of player to challenge for the Big 12 title and get started in making deep runs in the NCAAs.

Holmes would definitely address a need and to see a lineup of:
    PG - McCarty/Sutton
    SG - Atkins/Higgs
    SF - Hosey/Underwood
    PF - Holmes/Caron-Goudreau
    C - Lang/Aborowa
should put a smile on any UT fan's face.

That would be awesome. It definitely seems like there is a tight friendship among Jada, Joyner and Didi. Of course, that doesn't guarantee they end up playing college together, but the personal relationships certainly don't hurt if they all have mutual interest in a particular school.

Between Joyner and Lauren Cox, they each only have one in-state school under consideration -- Texas and Baylor, respectively. All other schools are out-of-state national programs with a lot of tradition and/or recent success: Tennessee, Notre Dame, UConn, Louisville, and South Carolina. While I won't cry if Cox goes out of state, if they both go out of state, that really does hurt the overall perception of the best in Texas staying in-state (and in the Big 12 conference). So, fingers crossed that Joyner signs with Texas, and it pays off on the court and in future recruiting.

A&M picks up a commitment from 5'10 G Arleighshya McElroy from Richardson.

6'4 Ciera Johnson of Duncanville has narrowed her list to 6 schools:
Texas, Texas A&M, Ohio State, Duke, Notre Dame and Louisville.

    She did mention us first:

Lots of promising news lately -- that we're in Joyner's three, Ciera's six, and that Alecia is tearing up the court. Joyner's video is fantastic. I don't know anything about Ciera's game, need to try to find something.

Definitely a "1 of these things is not like the others" situation. Saw her play on last year's U17 team, a SG who, when she's on, is pretty scary from any distance.

    Curious Question:
Every recruiting season we make more offers than we have scholarships available. What happens when more say yes than we have room for? Do we pull offers? Are our offers given on a time deadline? Just seems like it's a risky game and I'm not sure how it works.

This tweet says Sabrina has a final 4 list:

@Jon_Hawthorne: According to @HaroldAbend, top 2016 guard -- Sabrina Ionescu (Calif) -- has narrowed her choices to Cal, Oregon, Oregon State and Texas.

Yes, I continue to be impressed with Coach Aston and her staff. There are not many programs out there that haven't had the recent amount of success the other 5/6 programs in the country have, but continue to recruit at the same level as those programs (we all know who those 5/6 programs are) on top of the fact that the program has gotten better every year. When it comes to handing out more offers than scholarships available, the recruits understand where they stand with the program. Also, when you think about it, the fact that out of all the schools who were recruiting Sabrina outside of the west coast, she choose to put Texas in her top 5, is a great thing in my opinion. Even though we obviously won't get her, it tells you how other recruits outside of Texas view the program and where it's continuing to go. It also doesn't hurt that her and Joyner are also good friends.

No doubt this coaching staff works extremely hard in recruiting from coast to coast. While the odds don't seem all that great at landing Ionescu (since the other 4 schools are all on the west coast and in the PAC), no one knows for sure what her main objective is in selecting a school. We were the only school of her final five to reach the Sweet 16, so we do have that going for us.

Regardless, hope she makes an official visit here prior to making a verbal commitment to anyone so she can check out in person all Texas has to offer.

Not sure how it will work moving forward, but programs used to handle it in one of two ways.

    1. They would tell recruits that acceptances are time sensitive, meaning first come first serve so to speak.
    2. Other programs might take all who accept and not renew a player on the current roster.

Since number 2 will no longer be an option with guaranteed scholarships moving forward it would seem as though they may take the best of who accepts and pull the rest.

All you have to do is look at the players that we have coming in including Alecia and the overall roster, to understand that we won't get Sabrina. Right now today, we have 1 scholarship available when you include the other Goudreau who presumably will be at UT after juco this year. I would be very surprised if we were still actively recruiting Sabrina, a lot of recruits already know where they want to go, they just put schools that they like, or the schools were they had a good repore with the coaches in their final 5. If she does take a visit to Texas, it will be just a nice free weekend vacation for her, which is what a lot of recruits will do.
