Option #2 is still available as very few universities give out multi-year athletic scholarships. But I would think Option #2 is not used often because word spreads quickly and it'll have a negative impact on future recruits, unless a student athlete violates criminal statutes or is dismissed for repeatedly breaking team rules.

    http://www.cbssports.com/collegefoo...4-year-scholarships-to-athletes-but-many-dont

Option #3 is to talk to the student athlete during end of year evaluation to give her an option to remain with a scholarship student athlete on the team but whose playing time would be limited or given a release to transfer elsewhere. I suspect this is what happened to Lilley Vander Zee and Nekia Jones.

If I understand the new rules correctly, beginning this year athletic scholarships are no longer subject to annual review. Perhaps I'm wrong but I thought that meant all scholarships are for four years, unless an athlete suffers a career ending injury, or decides to transfer for some reason. But the University can not withdraw a scholarship.

Well, but I guess I'm asking about if Sabrina and all of our 2016 offers suddenly said yes...what would be do?

(I get that they won't...I know that's not the case, but...what if...???)

Recruiting in every sport is a fluid process, with more offers being made, and more athletes considering various programs than there are spots available. As commitments are made the landscape changes....programs may no longer have a need for certain positions, and some recruit's interest may lessen (or increase) also. And for a handful of programs that generate lots of interest among the nation's top recruits, it all works out in the end. No question Texas has been one of those programs garnering the most interest these past few years, so no surprise that Sabrina (or anyone else) has us among her finalists.

Glad to hear that we are in Joyners final three, hopefully we will land her, looking forward to late September.

Yes, and if any of us are on twitter, tweet her and show her some love. It may not mean anything but it certainly can't hurt.

not exactly UT hoops news but in a way, UT related. Former UT assistant coach Ronald Hughey, now the head coach at Houston, gets verbals for 2016: Natasha Mack, a 6-4 P from Lufkin and Jasmyne Harris, a 5-10 guard from Brazosport HS. Tai Dillard is also an assistant coach at Houston. Hughey and Dillard got a very good post in Mack.

Good for them, I like coach Hughey he has a lot to do with Imani being here. Also there was a write up on Joyner Holmes were she talked about the 3 schools that she's considering, and what she said about Texas was very encouraging.

With virtually zero news on Mack for several months, I just had a feeling she'd end committing to a non-BCS school.

As for Amber Ramirez, prospectnation.com had the following blurbs based on the recent adidas camp:

"Class of 2016 guard Amber Ramirez of San Antonio, Texas, was arguably the most productive player it the gym."

" Ramirez, who is down to Texas Tech and TCU, is one of the premier scoring guards in the class of 2016. Her ability to create her own shot might be unmatched in this year’s class."

Looks like Amber will stay in the Big 12, but in Texas. She will be the top incoming recruit at whichever of the two she chooses.

Very nice - also, I didn't realize she had such a good jump shot at distance.

Joyner taking her official to Tennessee this weekend, according to tweet by Tennessee beat writer, Maria Cornelius.

Is Texas going to be her last visit?

Yes, Joyner will be in Knoxville starting on Thursday through Saturday. She will be able to get the full academic tour on Friday, and visit with the coaches and team the rest of the time.

Most feel that she is headed to Texas, but is visiting Notre Dame and Tennessee as a "thank you" for continuing to recruit her. I would love to have her in Knoxville, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

    I think so.

I believe she is going to take her official the weekend of September 18, which is when Alecia Sutton and Jada Underwood are visiting.

Surprised Joyner is visiting Knoxville so early (and no football weekend). Thought she might visit the same time Lauren Cox is visiting, which is for the Vols' home game against OU (the weekend of September 11).

Cox is visiting Notre Dame the first weekend in September, which is when our football team is playing at Notre Dame. Wouldn't surprise me if that is the same weekend Joyner visits South Bend.

someone mentioned that although Sara is junior in athletic eligibility, she is a senior academically. If she does decide that this will be her last season, that would open up another spot for 2016. Maybe adding Holmes & a post for 2016 is still a viable option.

Joyner had a great time at Tennessee, but I think it's almost 100% positive that she will be at Texas.

2016 5-star small forward Valerie Higgins (Granada Hills, CA) committed to USC Sunday. I'm not sure how aggressively Texas was recruiting her but the Longhorns were in her Top 5.

Can't say I ever recall reading anything about her as it related to Texas.

Months ago I came across a quote from her where she listed Texas among her final 5. Later, Ionescu's inclusion of Texas in her list reminded me of Higgins.

Joyner will take a visit to ND in October, which means she won't be deciding in late September. In my opinion that is not a good sign for us.

Hmmn . . . thought she said in the video interview that she would be making her commitment in late September. Well, I guess things can change. Or, she can decide not to take that final official visit if she commits sooner rather than later.

I agree. I'm concerned if she was so certain on Texas she would have committed already. Hope the proximity to home and playing with close friends wins out!
