I believe Kiki still holds the all time UT record for sacks.

I don't want to get too far off topic on this thread, but for any of you that are not familiar with Greg Ploetz in my earlier post, you might want to read two short articles about him. Especially note what DKR said about him the Dallas news article:

    http://www.denverpost.com/colleges/...z-former-texas-football-player-dies-at-age-66

    http://www.dallasnews.com/sports/co...oetzs-suffering-was-long-but-now-its-over.ece

Terry Frei that wrote the Denver Post article is also the author of "Horns, Hogs & Nixon's Coming". A book about the 1969 Texas - Arkansas game and NC season. Highly recommended reading for serious fans of the Horns.

Not off topic at all. This thread is all about celebrating the people who have made Longhorns football great over the years. Simply posting photos is enough some of the time, but not always. Great articles, thanks for sharing.

P.S. Drifting into a discussion about medical marijuana or CTE -- now that would be off topic. We should save that for another thread.

30 days to kickoff versus ND!!!

Tip of the hat to all above:

#30 from Bridge City Texas, Wishbone FB, All-American Steve Worster 1968-1970:

Worster was a part of and a big contributor to the success of the Wishbone offense for DKR from 1968-1970. One of DKR's best recruiting classes in 1966, known as the Worster Bunch. He was my idol when I played ball in HS. That is why I chose his name for HF. I wanted to be Woo-Woo Worster but it was already chosen and Worster Fan was rejected so I ended up with Worster Man out of desperation and wanting to get online to hopefully by tickets to the Dec. 2001 UT vs. Colo. Big XII Championship game in Dallas. As they say, that is another story.

Worster was a key part of the 1969 10-0 season and win versus ND in the 1970 NC game. He was the Heisman runner up for the 1970 season. He was injured in the 1970 game versus aggy. In the 1971 CB when UT was ranked #1, ND keyed on him and they were determined that he would not be a big part of Texas beating them 2 years in a row. He fumbled more times than I care to remember.

So, Worster had one bad game over 3 years - the 1971 CB versus ND. DKR later said he probably should not have played in the game due to his injuries, others have said he stayed out all night before the game in Dallas having a good time. It may have been one or the other, or some combination of both that day - I don't know. Worster did not play on the D but he did little to help the D that day with bad field position, etc. QB Eddie Phillips played a great game vs ND in 1971 and kept the Horns in it for awhile, but sadly the record 30 game UT win streak came to an end that day in Dallas.

Nice job, WoMan! I was born in 1969, so I don't remember either of the Notre Dame Cotton Bowls -- but I've read a lot about them and Woo Woo is definitely worthy of kicking of the day-30 tribute.

I hate to point it out, but Woo Woo was not the Heisman runner up.

Here's a #30 I do remember -- RB Ryan Roberson (2009-12) hitting pay dirt against Okie St.

Remember Worster from his HS days and then at UT. He was the same age as me and I saw him play many times in person and TV. I always thought he was this huge fullback.

Later in the '70s I would see him at Sholtz Garden before games and was always surprised at how small he was relatively speaking. The size of the game has really changed since we played.

May not be able to post this tomorrow morning, so I'm adding it now...

Joe Aboussie #29 1973 vs Miami (he was running down the sideline for a TD and dropped the ball!)

Your right NJH, it was a poor choice of words. Didn't read the article but he was only in the hunt.

Gosh I had forgotten about that play!

Back in the day there was a big recruiting battle for Aboussie from Wichita Falls TX. Think I remember he was a HS All American and lead WF to their last state championship or maybe they just went deep in the playoffs? ou wanted his services badly but the Horns got him. He had some flashes of greatness but it seems like he got hurt and was never the same again. Perhaps he just withered on the depth chart vine.... I cannot remember. Anyone correct me if I am wrong on any of my recollections.

I know he faded. I watched that game when He broke the run and suddenly dropped the ball. Miami covered and the horns lost as I recall.
