We were eagerly awaiting the 2010 season after playing in the rose bowl the previous season. How long ago does that seem!

Who knew at the time that the coaches were done recruiting and doing their jobs. I personally was in denial about how bad it was getting till it was too late.(not that what I think about that time would have made any difference)

Hopefully Charlie and Co can right the ship so our Longhorns aren't wandering the wilderness too long. This year could get ugly quick if they don't pull some **** out of their collective hats(arses).

Same here. I remember thinking we were re-loading at QB and loaded on defense.
I was worried that Mack's move to a play-action run first oriented offense did not make any sense what-so-ever. but I was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.
Turns out I was wrong about being loaded and wrong for giving Mack the benefit of the doubt.

He got me again in 2012. That man could sell a product.

Sometimes looking back on it...not long enough!

That was one of the biggest disappointing seasons I can remember, and I sat through the bad ones during the McWilliams and Mackovic years. They had a couple of good years, but mostly disappointing.

I had similar expectations coming into 2010. I thought GG was going to be the next great QB in UT history. As Dr. Phil would say, hey Worster, how did that work out for you?:rolleyes1:

It’s a good reminder that we had a great run and success should never be taken for granted.

I would embarrass myself if I told what my fanatic fan friend and I forked up for tickets to the Ohio State game here. Painful and expensive night. Wait, I have the years mixed up. Never mind. That was after VY decided not to come back... 2006 season.

Aw yes, 2010. The year the world was our oyster and we could have gone PAC10 or SEC or anywhere we wanted. We were the Jonses as some people said.

But we didn't know that the cupboard was bare and that a tsunami of mediocrity was about to hit Austin. There were some bad stretches in the 60s, 80s, and 90s, but this one has been the worst and I don't think it's over. I hope I'm wrong.

Sorry, Clean, but the mediocrity of the mid 80s was far worse than our current stretch. Perhaps it has just faded from our memories (thankfully) due to time.

The thing that will always stick out to me most about the 2010 season is our first drive of the OU game when we literally threw away the series.

1st & 10: -2 yard pass to a wr standing still behind the LOS with only 1 guy to block for him against tight coverage.
2nd & 12: -2 yard pass to a wr standing still behind the LOS with only 1 guy to block for him against tight coverage.
3rd & 14: 5 yard route over the middle to the TE.
    4th & 9: punt

You are kidding, right? Let's compare 1984-1993 with 2010-2014.

    1984 -- 7-4-1, Lost Freedom Bowl
    1985 -- 8-4, Lost Bluebonnet Bowl
    1986 -- 5-6
    1987 -- 7-5, Won Bluebonnet Bowl
    1988 -- 4-7
    1989 -- 5-6
    1990 -- 10-1, Lost Cotton Bowl (blowout)
    1991 -- 5-6
    1992 -- 6-5
    1993 -- 5-5-1

    Total 62-49-2 (55.8%)
    Worst 5 year stretch 29-28 (50.9%)

    2010 -- 5-7
    2011 -- 8-5, Won Holiday Bowl
    2012 -- 9-4, Won Alamo Bowl
    2013 -- 8-5, Lost Alamo Bowl
    2014 -- 6-7, Lost Texas Bowl

    Total 36-28 (56.2%)

I think the 80s-90s were worse and the period of mediocrity lasted longer. We'll come out of this one soon, I hope.

I remember thinking that the 1994 Sun Bowl was the greatest thing to happen to Texas football since the early 80s.

The malaise of the mid to late 80's seems worse than this most recent stretch from 2010 - 2014, but not by much. That 1984 team started it. They were #1 at one point, the horrible tie with ou in the heavy rain started the downturn and then the season ended with that gawd awful Freedom Bowl cluster.:rolleyes1:

I remember sitting through the rain storm, and the OU (questionable) pick in the EZ that the Ref ruled out of bounds. Then the FG to tie. That was the beginning of some woeful and lousy years.

After Fred left, it got bad....very bad....

....anyone remember little sections of the LHB going around the stadium playing "TEXAS FIGHT" until the cows came home....??? all this was in an effort to keep people from heading to the exits....ugh...it was bleak!!!

Yeah, I was in the end zone with my brother - it was a very miserable game to sit through for a nail-biting tie and I was fearful lightning would strike some of the players / coaches on the field or some of us in the stands - it was so intense at times. If RB Kevin Nelson scores a TD instead of getting tackled on the 1 or 2 yard line... Horns win and the season may have turned out differently. We will never know.
