Now that's more like it! They need to hit the field every week with that attitude burning within and unleash it on each and every opponent. No prisoners!!

Yup, I don't miss the clapping and I don't miss the positive words for the player coming off the field after a penalty or stupid play (like that's OK, you'll do better next time, etc.)

I do like the CS staff not clapping, not giving positive responses and getting on the player and chewing them out thoroughly. Build on accountability and toughness.

    [IMG] OG Sedrick Flowers #66
Sedrick Flowers was a model of consistency for the Longhorns last season - the only offensive lineman to start all 13 games at the same position (left guard).

Flowers has emerged as one of the leaders of Texas’ offensive line, a guy that I saw go out of his way to help younger offensive linemen during spring practice.
Joe Wickline has shifted plenty of players around over the last few weeks but Flowers and Taylor Doyle have been the two guys that have stayed put at their respective positions.
Barring something unforeseen, Flowers will continue his string of starts at left guard from the season opener at Notre Dame on.
He’s a senior that has been through the ropes and learned from a really good player in front of him in Trey Hopkins, a high school teammate of his. He’s reliable and will be instrumental in helping the Longhorns improve up front.

    [IMG] DT Poona Ford #95
Poona Ford came in with a lot of expectations being one of the players Charlie Strong hand-picked to round out Texas’ 2014 recruiting class.

He managed to make an impact despite playing at a position full of depth. He finished with nine tackles (four solo), including one tackle-for-loss.

The coaching staff is expecting Ford to ramp up his workload much more in Year 2, and he seems poised to take on the extra playing time.

Ford, by and large, has worked with the 1s throughout fall camp even as Tank Jackson works his way back from injury and Hassan Ridgeway, who was dinged up to start camp, gets back in the swing of things.

He is a key piece at a position that is as deep as any on the roster with himself, Jackson, Ridgeway, Paul Boyette Jr., Alex Norman, Chris Nelson, and Jake McMillon.

Ford is going to be one of Texas’ top defensive tackles.

Last season he didn’t have a game with more than two tackles. That will change this season as the Longhorns work him with the idea that he’ll be a definite leader of the interior lineman a season from now with some guys leaving around him.

RB D'Onta Foreman was held out all week with "minor injury."

Glad most of these are "minor" in nature. I cannot express how pleased I am that most of the Horn injured players go to the PIT with Coach Moorer and perform grueling workouts on the non-injured parts of their bodies. No break, no time to relax a little, think soft - I get my position back when I am better... NO not on Moorer's watch, work, work, work!

    [IMG] WR Armanti Foreman #83
Armanti Foreman’s biggest impact on the team last season came in special teams as he had a team-high 11 kickoff returns for an average of 18 yards.

He had receptions in six games played and had his best two games at the end of the season against Oklahoma State [2 receptions for 74 yards and a TD] and TCU [4 receptions for 91 yards and 1 TD].

He also had two rushes for 41 yards on speed sweeps against Kansas and Baylor.

Foreman has worked exclusively with the 1s so far during fall practice, which should give you an indication as to how much the staff thinks about him.

One issue Foreman had early on last season was ball security so he’ll have to make sure he has that issue wrapped up.

Foreman is one of Texas’ top receivers and is expected to be one of the top playmakers on the team.

That’s the hope of the coaching staff, for sure, as they’ve told Foreman they expect him to be the game-changer they recruited him to be. The staff will try to get the ball in his hands a multitude of ways, be it out wide, in speed sweeps, or in the return game.

    [IMG] DT Chris Nelson #97
Chris Nelson, Poona Ford and Jake McMillon, all signees from the 2014 recruiting class, are the only defensive tackles on the roster from a three-cycle period. McMillon spent his redshirt freshman season with the offensive line. He's now back on defense, but the expectations to produce soon are higher for Nelson than they are for the Abilene product.

The 6'1 305# three-star signee from Lakeland (Fla.) Victory Christian redshirted last season but missed spring practice recovering from shoulder surgery. Nelson hasn't established himself as a front-line member of the tackle rotation yet, but Charlie Strong talked throughout camp about Nelson making incremental improvements and putting himself in a position to be a factor when it comes to playing time this fall.

A good athlete who played linebacker and running back in high school, Nelson was believed to have a tremendous amount of upside when he chose the Longhorns on signing day in 2014.

“He brings a lot of versatility to the team up front,” DT Paul Boyette said. “I think he's getting better every day, especially in pass rush. He's a young guy that really is going to be a contender for us this year.”

Rules changes approved for the 2015 season include:
    • An eight-person officiating system will be allowed if a conference or school chooses. A center judge was used experimentally in several conferences during the past two seasons.
    • A 15-yard unsportsmanlike foul will be called on players who push or pull opponents off piles. This usually occurred in the past after fumbles.
    • If a helmet comes off a defensive player in the final minute of a half, 10 seconds will be run off the game clock, and the play clock will be set at 40 seconds. Previously, the play clock was set to 25 seconds.
    • Officials will return to giving teams an initial sideline warning when their personnel move out of the designated team bench area.
    • Officials will treat illegal equipment issues -- such as jerseys tucked under the shoulder pads or exposed back pads -- by making the player leave the field for at least one play. The equipment must be corrected for the player to return to the game. The player may remain in the game if his team takes a timeout to correct the equipment issue.
    • Instant replay reviews will be allowed to see if a kicking team player blocked the receiving team before the ball traveled 10 yards on onside-kick plays.
    • Teams must be provided at least 22 minutes prior to kickoff for pregame warm-ups. Teams may mutually agree to shorten this time period.
    • If the play clock runs to 25 seconds before the ball is ready for play, officials will reset the clock to 40 seconds. Previously, the play clock was reset when it reached 20 seconds.
    • Non-standard/overbuilt face masks are prohibited.
