Didn't Colt pass Cousins on the depth chart?

I thought Colt became the #2 QB for the Redskins by the end of last season.
Yet all I hear now is how Cousins has a chance to unseat RGIII for the starting job.
    Not one word about Colt.
It's beginning to piss me off.:hookem:

Apparently Colt is the back up QB, as in, he backs up whoever is the starting QB.

Well, I'm pretty sure Cousins was the #3 QB at the end of last season.

It may just be posturing by the Redskins because Cousins is more of a trade-able asset than Colt.

Colt is in the career back up role, make a lot of money, dont get killed or mess up your knees, etc. and in a few years retire to coaching, the Jason Garrett path so to speak. All in all a very nice way to live.

Even my A&M friends who normally tow the A&M party line on UT pros (VY was a total bust, Texas guys in the NFL are soft, etc), are in unanimous agreement that Colt McCoy proved last year he was the best QB on the Washington roster.

Yes, but if Colt was the starter, who would the back up QB be? In other words, the back up QB isn't necessarily #2.

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...lf-after-kirk-cousins-named-redskins-starter/

The only reason Cousins is the starter is because he was a Redskins draft pick. There is no quantitative or qualitative reason why Colt is behind Kirk. Here are some of the local excuses:

    1) Cousins has been the best QB in camp. - Not true. In the preseason, Colt has been perfect. And he's played against 1s/2s/and3s with the Redskins' 1s/2s/and3s. Cousins has been "meh." In the last preseason game before Cousins was named the starter, he threw a boneheaded interception to the rushing linebacker, fumbled the ball, and had a bad throw into 2 DBs tipped for a lucky TD.

    2) Cousins has earned it - Uh no...Cousins is 2 -7 (1-5 in 2014) as a starter in the numerous opportunities he's already had to supplant RG3. And one of those "wins," his only one of last year, was thanks to Colt coming in at the 2nd half against the Titans last year after Cousins threw 2 ints. When he was benched in favor of Colt, Cousins led the league in interceptions despite playing 2 less games than anyone else. He was by every respect the worst QB in the NFL when he was benched. We've seen this before.

    3) Cousins has a better upside and Colt is just a game manager; we want to develop Cousins because Colt is what he is - The only thing Cousins has on Colt is 1 inch in height and a better arm. Colt is faster, more elusive, has much better vision (a mole has better field vision that Cousins), and is much more accurate. From a potential/talent perspective, Cousins is only a year younger than Colt and he was a 4th round pick vs Colt who was a 3rd rounder. Colt right now, is a much better QB than he was in Cleveland.

    4) From his time in Cleveland, Colt already's proved he's not a QB we can win with - Ridiculous. Forget that fact that Cleveland is a hell mouth for QBs...Colt still has a better starting record than Cousins and it's not even close. And there was this little game last year played Monday Night against...who was it? The Cowboys in Jerryworld. Colt has also beaten the Patriots in Foxboro and the Saints in New Orleans. Cousins doesn't anything even close to that on his resume. And Cousins has had the benefit of playing with Alfred Morris, DeSean Jackson, and Trent Williams.

Best synopsis on Colt I've ever read. He's been **** on by every team he ever played for, not to mention, other than his one year stint in SF, the worst teams in the league. He's too nice. That's all I can come with. His so called lack of arm strength is compensated by his mobility. f**k the NFL. Colt is better than Brady and he proved it with Cleveland in a real game!

I think Texas EX2000 got it right. Cousins is probably a compromise between Gruden and Redskins management since RGIII is not the answer. Colt is Gruden's insurance policy or QB of the future. As much as I don't like Colt in Washington, I think he'll be starting by the end of the year either due to injury or poor play by Cousins.

I just hope the Redskins don't have another MNF game and John Gruden can say what a great offensive mind Jay Gruden is and how the players are terrible.

There is a legitmate knock on Colt, and that's his durability. It appears though, he has improved his pocket presence and running style to avoid those big hits.

Here's a tip for you FF players. Matt Jones will be ROY and could surpass Morris on the depth chart. The guy is a beast. And a beast that not only can run over people, but make them look silly with a juke.

The lone saving grace to Colt being tabbed as the back-up in the **** show that is Washington is that he doesn't have to start behind that pitiful excuse of an OL they put on the field. Other than that, the only thing this shows is a continuing pissing match between owner and head coach...

Glad I am not a fan of that team up there...

RG3 makes them look a lot worse than they really are. He leads the leauge by a huge margin in % of sacks/dropbacks. Something like a sack every 6 dropbacks. Colt and Cousins with the same oline are about half of that or about the leauge average.

RG3 moves the protection the wrong way and doesn't hit his hot routes because he never sees the blitz. It really isn't the oline's fault for his historically bad sack rate.

Cousins will meet "A boy named Suh" on September 13th. Thank God Colt isn't starting. He's seen enough of that guy!

The NFL doesn't like guys who don't pass the eye test. If you have more "up-side", coaches are always convinced they can go find it and plug it into the game. Unfortunately, I'm afraid Colt will be in the same situation just about anywhere he goes.

But as some have said, being a backup QB in the NFL is a pretty great way to earn a living. Colt's humble enough to accept that, I think, although I have no doubts he wants to start somewhere. I suspect though that he's going to have to be in the right place at the right time and get stretches of 3-4 games at most to do that.

His numbers were respectable last night...not great, but he had no picks and no fumbles and completed two-thirds of the passes he attempted. Even against scrubs that get played in the last game of pre-season, that makes for a decent showing...after all, those scrubs were playing with motivation to make the last round of cuts and arguably are apt to show more effort than the first-teamers might have put forth.

I think someone else said it correctly when they believed that Colt should just stick with the Jason Garrett route. Be a backup. Be a starter when the starter inevitably gets hurt/sucks. Be a game manager when you're in there, trying not to mess up.

Even the "he just wins" crowd has to admit that on a play-by-play basis, he's not going to dazzle you enough to make ownership say "well, maybe we should take a longer look at him." Like the Cowboys game last year: completing 83 percent of your passes is sweet, but with no TDs and a mid-level QBR? There are 30 other NFL QBs who are "capable" of throwing no TDs and finishing a game with around a 50 QBR. Sure, it's the Redskins, but good QBs on bad teams don't get the stigma of being breakable or not big enough or weak-armed.
