Obi Eboh ..... Southlake Carroll (Southlake, TX)
    3-star ..... CB ..... 6-2/190 ..... TEXAS Stanford

    Per Scout:
Eboh is a versatile defensive back prospect with experience playing both cornerback and safety. Broad-shouldered w/great size and length that suggest positive weight gain. Potentially position-versatile as CB/Nickel/S thanks to size and experience. Nose for the ball. Willing to mix it up vs. run. Height/length sometimes cause stiffness in turn-and-run, but aid in jamming and overall physicality. Highly intelligent. Very good prospect.

Eboh had a breakout junior season with 55 tackles, five tackles for loss, and a team-leading 10 pass breakups for Southlake Carroll, a perennial state power that reached the Class 6A Division II state quarterfinals.

    Strengths: coverage awareness, instincts, size
    Areas to Improve: hip flexibility

    Per TFB:
The timing of this offer is particularly interesting in that I had spoken to a couple sources over the weekend and it sounded like Eboh was very close to announcing decision. And I was told that Oklahoma would have been the school to beat.

This Texas offer may very well change things. Firstly, Obi is a high academic athlete and I’m told that there is no doubt the academics at Texas are appealing to Obi and his family. Additionally, I’m told that while Obi’s father was a soccer play at TAMU, his mother really likes Texas. Obi camped at Texas earlier this summer.

A day ago, I would have said Obi to Oklahoma was close to inevitable. But based on conversations with folks around Obi, this Texas offer changes things significantly.

A source close to Obi told me he'd be shocked if Obi doesn't commit to Texas. Says his mom absolutely loves Texas.

I'm starting to lean that way too Andrew. This was all but a wrap for the Sooners but I think this offer may have literally reversed the trajectory from north to south.

As a junior, Ehoh made the move from safety to corner, where he notched 55 tackles, including five tackles for loss, and broke up 10 passes.

The thing that sticks out from the moment you start watching Eboh is his height and length. He’s 6 feet 1.5 inches and 187 pounds. He looks wiry in his junior highlights but may be more similar in build to Davante Davis than Holton Hill.

The rest of his measureables are good (4.57 laser-timed 40, 4.19 shuttle, 33-inch vertical). Eboh’s speed is fine, but it’s not tangible qualities that make Eboh unique. His instincts and recognition skills are what really stand out on tape. He seamlessly switches assignments in zone coverage, and reads and reacts to runs quickly. Eboh shows a solid understanding of leverage using the sideline to his advantage against fade routes when in man coverage. Don’t even try throwing a bubble screen to his side unless you want to credit him with a TFL.

He’s a willing, if not great, tackler who doesn’t shy away from contact, but he doesn’t always wrap up and run through his target. Eboh sometimes stops his feet and dives at opponents’ knees instead. This is admittedly a minor concern and something he should pick up quickly. There are also a couple of signs that he may get over-aggressive at times and jump double-moves, and he probably doesn’t have the acceleration to recover from mistakes like that. He led the team in pass break-ups in 2014, but there aren’t many in his highlights, and I’d like to see him put his long arms to use in coverage to know that he can make some interceptions.

Eboh fits the Charlie Strong mold for a defensive back. He’s a big guy who can get much bigger. He’s versatile enough to play in multiple spots in the secondary. He’s smart and he’s willing to mix it up against the run. I have questions about his ball skills and hip flexibility, which are big reasons a move to safety could be in his future, but the video evidence is there that he can play the field corner position for Charlie Strong.

Eboh checks off the main desired attributes of a Strong corner with length (6-foot-1), quickness (4.57 40, 4.31 shuttle and comfortable with shuffle technique), and physicality in a Carroll defense that asks him at times to be a force player and at other times to be a deep zone player. At Texas, he’d fit best as a field corner that could use the wide spaces there as a shield to protect his lack of elite recovery speed. Eboh is a great cover 3 corner as his length would make deep throws risky while his willingness and ability as a tackler would help the D bend without breaking. He’s a versatile enough DB to be a take for the Texas D.

This kid comes from a football factory in Southlake Carroll, so you know he is coached up. He’s tall, long, rangy – what coaches across the country are looking for – and he has decent make-up speed. On top of that, he is physical and has no problem laying the wood, or coming up and putting a body on the ball carrier in run support.

If he watched the game the other night and how our secondary played, he may have thought..."I'm going to Texas if that's all they got."

    Visiting ou this weekend

    https://thefootballbrainiacs.com/ou...ecruiting-robert-barnes-obi-eboh-tyree-horton

    – Obi Eboh: OU will also host Barnes’ teammate, 2016 CB and Texas commit Obi Eboh (Southlake, TX). Earlier this month Eboh committed to the Longhorns, but it sounds like he will still make the trip to Norman this weekend. I can’t say what OU’s chances are of flipping Eboh, but a trip to Norman is certainly somewhat a good sign (and one of the many benefits of winning). – (Alex)

No worry OU could never steal a defensive player from Texas.

    Per Scout:
Obi Eboh, a 6-foot-2, 190-pound defensive back fom Southlake (Texas) Carroll quickly committed to play his college ball for Charlie Strong and UT.

A bigger-framed corner he put up numbers like some of the smaller and quicker athletes. He had a 117.6 overall SPARQ rating, running a 4.58 40-yard dash and a 4.13 pro-shuttle.

Eboh has nice size on the island and uses a blend of skill sets to lock down receivers. He has spent time at safety as well in high school, so having the opportunity to show that lock down coverage ability was a big check mark for Eboh in the win column. - SCOUT on Eboh's The Opening performance

Eboh continues to say he is 100% solid with his Texas commitment despite a recent visit to Oklahoma. Humphrey was actually close to committing right before the high school playoffs started to get it out of the way but when he wasn’t 100% sure where he wanted to go he decided to push it back. It continues to look like a Texas-Cal battle for him but with Eboh heading to Austin it seems like Texas will be the likely destination. I can’t wait to see the type of matchup nightmare Humphrey is at the next level regardless of where he ends up after he adds some weight to his long, skinny frame. – (Andrew)

Three-star defensive back commit, Obi Eboh and Southlake Carroll (9-3), fell to Denton Guyer (9-3), 48-35 in Area competition on Friday at Eagle Stadium in Allen. Eboh held his own in pass coverage, locking down his side of the field.

    Per BON:
Eboh was named a first team cornerback on District 7-6A's all-district team, and he also earned second team all-state honors as a defensive back on the AP's 6A All-State team.

A couple of weeks ago some talk came up about Eboh and Stanford. It's amplified the past few days - all speculation, of course.

Eboh's an intelligent young man - amongst his ~30 offers are Duke, Harvard, Rice, Vanderbilt and other brainy bastions. Stanford is an excellent school. He and they are interested in each other.

Nothing has been reported to have happened between the two parties, but don't be shocked if he takes an OV out yunder.
