When he gets in a game against us, I hope the Oline drives him into the dirt!

I applaud Coach Strong's stance on Lampkin, for the very reasons he stated.

    Strong on Lampkin today:

“Here's my stance on that. We recruited Lampkin, there was so much time placed into Lampkin and [he] understood what it took to get into school here," Strong said. "What I don't want to see happen is all of a sudden we just set the standard where if a young man says, 'Well, I have to finish this course and if I don't finish it I can go somewhere else,' now we're opening up the doors for other recruits for that to happen. If you open up the door for one, what if it happens next year? What if there's another guy? Or it could be two guys.

“You knew the requirements to get in here. It's a state system. You pass one part of the course, now you're telling me you can't go back and pass the other part of it? Not that I would ever stop a young man from getting a college education – I wouldn't – but once you have standards and you know what you have to go do, you have to be accountable. Just be accountable. Just be a responsible young man. That's all I'm asking you do.”

    ------------

    Dat's right, Coach!

Parents of student-athletes from coast to coast are going to appreciate this program more and more.
If this salty bunch can grind out 10 wins this regular season.... Katy bar the door! That's all she wrote!

ps. And I don't just want 10 wins. I want statement drives, quarters, wins.... levels of play, stuff that's chillin' (sic!) to hear about.

So now what? Can he still play for Ok with his own buck? That would be interesting and should promote an investigation by someone. Does this mean we are the only ones he can play for on a scholarship? Forever?

    Great move coach.

Is this akin to "not accepting someone's resignation"?

Good question. I don’t know what the rules say but if I had to guess I would think he could play anywhere he wants this year but just not on a scholly.

Or, he sits out the semester, passes his Spanish requirement, enrolls at UT, and then asks for a transfer next summer. Either way, he likely ain't playing this year.

    The rule.
    Transferring Schools
After signing a National Letter of Intent, you must attend that university for one full academic year and may not enroll in another institution participating in the NLI program. If you leave early to compete athletically at another school, you may not participate in intercollegiate athletics until you have completed a full academic year at the school named on the NLI. Leaving early also brings a penalty of forfeiting one season of competition in all sports.

Lampkin did not leave early but also did not attempt to fulfil his commitment. I read that he is enrolling at Ok I can not see how he can by this rule.

ALSO: Once the NLI has been signed no contact may be made by any coach or representative from another institution that honors the NLI. Clearly OK is guilty of tampering. At the end of Strong's press conference he said that he did not know if there had been tampering. I think those words were a clue of things to come. Lampkin clearly did not just drive to Oklahoma, show up at the door and say here I am.

This is not the end of this saga and bet your bottom dollar he is not playing this year unless he goes to a non NLI school. OR maybe he could get his butt down to Austin and attempt to enroll. UT would not accept him and he would be released. In any case Stupid must be guilty of tampering.

I think it's entirely possible that he went through the process of enrolling at OU without any tampering. Heck, I've enrolled at several schools without anyone telling me what to do. But if he's going to abide by the NLI rules, he's going to need to head to Division II or NAIA or something in order to keep playing.

Thx Olehornfan. His best option would have been to meet requirements and get a season of experience, maybe learn that he likes it here-- if not he transfers more normally, loses one year, by the time he plays he is equal to an upperclassman, and ready to contribute and build a resume for the future.

He waived all the smart things in his best interest, given he signed the NLI.

I found these quotes attributed to Lampkin dated before the first of June:
"If I take that summer school class now for Spanish and it doesn't go well, then I end up in a junior college," he said. "That's not the route I really want to take." As the report indicated and Lampkin confirmed, Oklahoma is likely the landing spot now. Lampkin said it's dependent on if the Sooners have any scholarships available.

Lampkin was originally committed to Oklahoma before decommitting and switching to Texas.

"If anything, I may land at Oklahoma," said Lampkin, who is hoping to know for sure within the next week. "I'm very comfortable with their coaching staff. So, as soon as everything dials down, I'm going to contact (Bob) Stoops and see if they have any scholarships available for me."

Maybe one would think that there has ben absolutely no contact between anyone employed by Oklahoma and Lampkin since he signed. Methinks not.

I found this on the Internet machine...

By John Shinn Transcript Sports Writer

Oklahoma might have a final addition to its 2015 recruiting class as early as Monday. But Texas will have a say in when it occurs.

Cypress Falls, Texas, defensive tackle Du’Vonta Lampkin Tweeted Friday that he has been accepted to OU. He expects to start classes Monday when the fall semester begins.

The problem is Lampkin signed a letter of intent to play at Texas in February. No one from OU’s football program is allowed to contact Lampkin until Texas releases him. Texas coach Charlie Strong told reporters on Saturday he will not release Lampkin from his letter of intent.

Lampkin announced in May he would not enroll at Texas. He was not happy when former Texas defensive line coach Chris Rumph left for the same job at Florida one day after signing day. No one at Texas gave Lampkin any inkling that could happen.

He might have stumbled on to a loophole that would release him from Texas. The school has a foreign language requirement for incoming freshmen. OU does not. Lampkin chose not to fulfill the requirement.

Lampkin appealed to the NCAA to have the letter of intent negated. It was denied last month. Texas doesn't have to officially decide whether or not to admit Lampkin until its fall semester begins Wednesday.

If a player cannot be admitted to the school, the letter of intent is no longer binding.

Side note: If Texas refuses to send a denial letter that would make Texas, “out of compliance” with the NCAA.

It seems like he has no internal obligation to be forthright since, in his opinion, UT wasn't forthright in their recruitment of him. I would guess that he's had this plan all along. Tampering would be someone form Oklahoma contacting him. Him contacting Oklahoma wouldn't be tampering. And, given that he was a Oklahoma commitment to begin with, I don't think there's a lot of motivation in Norman to steer him back to Charlie so he can be an accountable young man once he reaches out to them. Seems like once the dust settles everyone will get what they deserve.

You don't know Strong had anything to do with this.
As I understand, at some point, if he couldn't qualify for enrollment at UT then the school HAD to release him.
This was probably as far as it could go.
    Who gives a **** anyway?
