OK - Not trolling but actually curious if CS is canned end of the year - who do we go after? who would be the best fit for Texas?

I have always like the Clemson coach but I really don't know who out there would come here.

Brian Harsin. Was here for two years and will have had 3 years as a head coach. Plus more often than not it seems to work that a defensive guy gets replaced by an offensive and vice-versa. That said we're going to have to finish with 4 wins or less for change to be made.

Isn't there like a $34 million buyout for Charlie Strong?

I like Clemson but only if dabo brings his entire staff if not I'd try dantonio (spelled wrong) at Michigan state everybody else got big deals a year or 2 ago when we where on the hunt so we couldn't steal them and bring them to austin

Makes Patterson and Powers look like geniuses when they hired Strong, doesn't it?

Why not get Patterson? Have him bring Cumbie with. Gives you both a defensive and offensive coach. Not sure he would leave TCU, but he could do more here over the long run.

I think you're right. He will likely be given at least one more season to prove himself. I really would like to see him succeed, I think he is a good man. I want him to be a great Texas coach.

I'm still hoping he can turn things around, though it won't happen this season. The Cal and OSU games gave a glimpse of the future. Except for a missed extra point, bad punting and awful refs, we were close to being 3-1. Today was horrible, and if CS can't motivate them to keep playing through adversity, then it won't be good for him. And recruiting may be really hurt, too.

Why would Patterson want to leave TCU when they're up to come to Texas when we're down? Not everyone is for sale.

I’ve wondered what Harsin could have done here with more time. Some speculated that Mack limited him in his play calling but I have no idea about any of that. He is a sharp offensive guy.

Personally, I would enjoy Brian as our head coach. The problem with him is that he is coaching his alma mater. I don't think he would take the job if offered.

Swinney was my choice over Charlie. Could have had him and Morris all in one deal. I'm not sure he was even considered. What a joke Strong is. How can anyone defend a guy who can't even keep an OC through year 2? He should have known exactly the sorry offense Watson brought. We are going to lose a decade in recruiting. I sat though the Mackovic years when I was in school and we thought it was bad. This is unreal. They should fire Charlie tomorrow and start the search process now.

You can't start a search process until the season plays out. Anyone you want is actively working.

You most definitely can start now. If you wait until it's over then other schools will be ahead of you in the process. All I am saying is get started and let coaches out there know we will have an opening as soon as the season ends. We can not afford to go into recruiting season behind again. It's time to face the facts. The guy is not right for the job and never was. I'm sorry. I wish I was wrong but this is embarrassing.

I wouldn't be surprised if he took a job offer at another school. Laugh at the prospect of leaving $15 million on the table if you want, but I think he has friends who will contact him in December with offers that cut his salary by over 50 percent, but with 5000 percent less stress and 2-star players who actually buy into his style in a minor conference.

His sensitive ego can't handle the aftermath of 2-10, which is exactly where we're heading. I think he bails rather than gets fired. And if he doesn't bail, the new AD will host the coaching search during Strong's last year here and set us up for another 2-10 season.

Texas will not fire Strong as long as that ridiculous lawsuit is hanging over the department's head. With the heat that is coming his way, there is, however, a really good possibility that Strong will take the convict job when Golden is fired.

    Dion,

Harsin was totally handcuffed by MB. He had his resume out after about three games in Austin.

    JUST SAY "NO" TO DABO!

As for Chip Kelly, good call. It will cost The University $10 million to transport all his baggage. Do we have an empty floor at Bellmont for the NCAA to set up residence?

    Wadster,

Alabama cut their deal with Saban in June before the NFL season started. He coached the Dolphins and then moved. Two friends of mine wrote really large checks to help that happen. They were telling me about it the last of June that year when we met for lunch at Felix' in Mobile.

Why say no to Dabo? He has beaten OU, LSU, Ohio St, and ND. I would think he is an excellent candidate. He was smart enough to go get Chad Morris as well. Maybe not even an option but it would be nice to have a guy like him on the sidelines instead of what we have now.

I am sure we are all wasting our time. We will be stuck with this for another year. I was so impressed when we axed Patterson before he did any more damage. I was hoping we would do the same with this joke of a coaching staff. Amateur hour at best. Heck at this point it would be fun to bring Mack back to finish the season. Then all you guys debating about the cupboard could get a solid answer. My money was on Mack. Say what you will, but there is no way he would have allowed this nonsense. I said we the University ran him out that we would be sorry.

I cannot believe that University of Texas football fans are even talking about Chip Kelly and/or Dabo Swiney.

Let's make a short list and then add one caveat:

    Jackie Sherrill
    Chip Kelly
    Howard Schnellenberger
    Dennis Erickson
    Dabo Swiney
    Frank Beamer
    Tom Osborne

The one that can get Mike Locksley & John Blake as assistants gets the job.

All I ask is advanced notification so I can purchase a Bag & Baggage franchise close campus for them to purchase all their "sample bags" from.

Huge problem because none of these guys are worth what they're being paid or a contract like dumbass Patterson passed out. The only two guys I see earning their money are Patterson & Saban, although you could make an argument for Mora, Briles, and D'Antonio.

Compile a list of good or bad

Saban - Powers made damn sure that would never happen

Mora - might actually take the job, because he will never have the support in Westwood that he would have in Austin, Neither will he have the heat.

Urban Myth - Austin, you've been slimed!

D'Antonio - Interesting thoughts, but few, if any ties with Texas HS coaches. Several years ago he asked an opposing coach (friend of mine) at a bowl game why people don't like him. My friend said he's really a nice guy, but since he never smiles people shy away from him.

Patterson - I don't think he would leave Tarrant County for $10 million a year. The guy is a rarity and committed to TCU.

Briles - Where would Texas play, because so many fans would try to blow up Bellmont. Besides anyone suggesting he be interviewed should be fired immediately.

Peterson - Interesting choice but few ties with Texas HS coaches

    Harsin - See Peterson

First two resumes in would be Miles & Graham, which would probably each be delivered in a 16 ton truck to make sure we had enough copies for everyone.

Stoops - Would love the job but will never get an offer

RichRod - Would apply but should not get an interview

Like I said, only two of those guys are worth what they're paid and won't have the NCAA as permanent residents in your offices. If we are going back to OJT, the contract needs to be cheap and short. The new AD (not Perrin) needs to explore action to have Powers & Patterson to pay the coaches contracts, or seek restitution from the department's insurance policy.
