This team is horribly coached....HORRIBLY COACHED!!!

penalties is every game we ever had a chance of winning means the kids aren't focused and coached to NOT do stuff where it becomes second nature....

almost everyone has given up and most of the secondary are still chasing their tails like my first wiener dog did....HORRIBLE!!!

why did we not go after Patterson???

I too am getting to the edge with CS. I fully supported him until today. We just look horrible as a team and are not ready to play.

I said it two weeks ago and I'll say it again. This team is worse than they were at the beginning of last year. So much for the disipline and hard work theme. There is zero discipline and teamwork. Its like playground football.

This situation is squarely on CS and his assistants shoulders. He is in over his head and the ship is sinking.

In Mack's third season, I believe it was, in the 65-14 loss to OU, was it the running back Griffin that scored 6 touchdowns that day on those shuffle passes? I think when I endured that, sitting in a pub in San Jose... I was not expecting that much from the program. Two years after that lost, Mack got wood-shedded again, this time by 52 points... 65-13.

Right now, following Mack's runs of 9 and 10 wins, BCS bowl wins, title, and playing for another... the current status is not acceptable. Mack came along when his recruiting that grew by the year, weathered getting clobbered 5 years in a row by OU, and that was after he'd been here two years, and he got 60 rung up on him twice.

It was seven years before he got into a BCS bowl game (beat Michigan in the Rose Bowl), then the title game. And go back and look at the roster he'd built up by that time. Took over half a decade to get there. The expectations grew over that stretch of time.

Now the Longhorn program is expected to be about where Mack was as he climbed past that 5-year beatdown by OU.

Not where Mack was after the '98 and '99 seasons... when he went to Dallas in 2000, his third year, and got beat by 49 points. That was weird and bizarre, but didn't seem as disappointing as this does today.

    Perception is everything.

Mack in his first 4 years finished #15, #23, #12, and then #5.

This team under CS is worse this year then they were last year, and they were worse last year then they were the year prior.

Not contesting this, but reminds me of Griffin running wild all day in the Cotton Bowl scoring six touchdowns almost at will as OU rang up 63 points on a Longhorn team that couldn't seem to make game-day adjustments or figure out how to tackle.

He still got beat by 49 and 52 points along the way. I'm not defending what's going on now, but remember how sick I was and how much I suffered over those OU losses. I never went to an OU game in my life that Texas lost. And I witnessed classics in several decades. Those games mattered only next to a conference championships. I'm not a rankings guy. Beat OU, win conference titles, forget the W-L record, get in a major bowl

    LSC,

Folks aren't upset with CS because of one bad loss. Bad losses suck. But what upsets people is the fact that there is no positive trend (or more directly the team is trending downward). If the team has shown consistent improvement and otherwise strong performance in other games, a coach should be given a chance to get over that hump. But CS has failed miserably in this regard.

Texas hasn't been this bad since the Eisenhower administration.

You're thinking about it too much. They're really bad and trending downward. You have to make a change before it permanently damages the program and we become the University of Minnesota.

Not one person is judging the program based off this one game. Strong has lost this team and they are defeated. All three aspects of the game are totally worthless and the only way the offense gains yards is by Heard running for his life. Cant kick worth a **** and the defense (supposedly the strong point) is porous at best.

These comments are based off the trend not this game.

CS is done. A new AD is going to want his own guy. Charlie should have gotten a real OC during the off season. Cumbie could have been bought. But he was too stubborn or too dumb to realize Bridgewater made Watson, not the other way around. Going to cost him any chance to hang onto this job. Only way to save recruiting is to get a bid splash hire and move on. Not sure we can even do that anymore, but we have to try. This experiment has failed.

You're both right. It's not the points, or a loss. It's the total "stuff" of the whole affair. I was just thinking out loud. Both your posts handled it well and squared it adequately.

Total 20 or more point losses (last 10 coaches):

    1. Mack Brown 1998-2013 (206 games, 16 seasons): 14

    2. John Mackovic 1992-1997 (71 games, 6 seasons):11

    Darrell Royal 1957-1976 (219 games, 20 seasons):11

    4. David McWilliams
    1987-1991 (57 games, 5 seasons): 9

    Fred Akers 1977-1986 (119 games, 10 seasons): 9

    6. Ed Price 1951-1956 (61 games, 6 seasons): 8

    7. Charlie Strong 2014-?? (18 games, 2 seasons): 7

    8. Dana Bible 1937-1946 (97 games, 10 seasons): 6

    9. Jack Chevigny 1934-1936 (29 games, 3 seasons): 4

    10. Blair Cherry 1947-1950 (43 games, 4 seasons): 1 (He lost at #2 North Carolina 7-34 in 1948)

This is some perspective. Charlie has half as many as mack brown had in 18 games compared to Mack's 206 games.

They will give him one more year after that if nothing changes he gets the can but if he is smart he goes after a new oc and d line and secondary coach we have the players I really believe we do but we are not playing in the right system. Them being young is a gift and a curse the curse is the mistake the gift is you have time to mold them into your system so if I'm Charlie I'm making changes as soon as the season wraps if not he is doomed

That's 6 losses in last 7 games. 4 of losses were miserable. Only win was Rice where we held ball for 15 min 50 seconds and Rice had it almost 45 minutes

What disturbs me most is that no one on the staff seems detail oriented. Especially, perhaps the special teams and the D backs.

I give Norvell a pass because he was given the job during the season. But the offense has to improve, give the QB some check downs to counter the blitz, etc etc. Next year this should change, as Heard should have a breakout year.

Charlie Strong cannot and has not motivated this team, he doesn't have a clue how to do that. He looks completely lost standing on the sidelines. Watching 3 other games right now, and the effort, enthusiasm, and excitement of players in these games are totally amazing compared to Texas. He needs to show that he can make any type of improvement of this team in the next few games, or he should be out. $5Million for this....give me a break.

I said before the season if we play a lot of talented freshmen we will see a lot of rookie mistakes. We have seen way too many and special teams breakdowns are a killer for morale. Two missed field goals, snap over punters head, kick out of bounds after the safety, are horrid. The DBs are slow to react and bit big time on fakes.

This team it appears, to have lost it winning mentality. About the only guy I saw that had a descent day was Foreman running the ball.

I keep hearing these are young guys trying to learn how to play the college game. True, but there is a general lack of improvement week to week. If or when OU beats us as badly or worse next week, I don't know what the reaction will be. Not good l can guarantee. The worst case scenario of a 1-5 start or fast becoming a reality. After that, there are some improving teams on the schedule and about the only win is Kansas.

I think the confidence in Strong is beginning to wane, I at this point he is in real jeopardy of being let go on Sunday after the last game.

But who knows, maybe the team will get tired of being a joke and win a few convincingly. However, that is doubtful.

Before the season, I called Strong arrogant and cavalier with the program because he refused to bring in a proven transfer QB and said this was a glimpse into his mindset, more so than whether or not anyone thought Swoopes or Heard would develop. While I still stand by my point that he needed to do that to hedge his bet and it has proven to be the case, I am revising my previous description of him being arrogant and cavalier. Based upon some other decisions such as continued use of Gray over Foreman, sticking with Watson when he could watch daily and see that the offense had not significantly changed, standing by and allowing complete disorganization on the sidelines and in play calling, and of course, the QB situation, I now believe that he may just not be able to handle being a head coach in such a pressure cooker job and he may just not be all that smart. I do think that he is a very good person, a solid teacher and a good, hand-on football coach. But he needs to be making better tough decisions in a timely manner.

If we go 4-8 or even 5-7, CS is gone. Considering I think 3-9 is more probable, I see no way he's back next year. Let's all hope Philadelphia tanks this year.

I don't see this team winning another game this season, with the way they are playing right now. There is no improving trend. I thought we were going to see it after the Cal game. But I think the missed field goal and the messed up punt the following week, ruined this team's mindset. They've lost it mentally.

CS is an X's and O's defensive coordinator. To be a head coach at a major school, you have to hire top talent coordinators and position coaches and recruit well. He set himself up for failure with terrible support staff.

The University needs to move first with a permanent AD immediately then start a search for the next head coach so an offer can be made as soon as the chosen candidate's bowl is over.

Fans need to keep pressure on Belmont to make a change and fans need to stop personally calling out players. Thankfully, have not seen it much on this site. Support the team regardless.

It's a shame. I Like Charlie. I think he is a great person and a good football coach. But I hope he goes sooner than later. (read any of my previous posts if you doubt where I stood on Charlie before)

But for all of the emphasis he puts on discipline, values, and toughness; we look sloppy, and soft. And have no focus.

But to me he was on the right path to win the culture war within UT athletics except that he made a series of really bad decisions that he could not afford to make at a time when getting some wins (or a signature win) was paramount. We can all go back and probably add to the list. Here is mine:
    • Firing Oscar Giles (as a result we suck on the DL and are losing in recruiting)
    • Keeping Chambers only to fire his sorry *** in one season (duh)
    • Firing Darrell Wyatt for Les Koenning
    • Bringing in Watson (duh). Bringing this dud with him out of some sort of loyalty when he could have brought in any OC in at any price...
    • Bringing in Wickline (a win!) but wedding him to fugging Watson. STUPID MOVE from a management 101 decision. I am surprised Wickline agreed to it.
    • Bedford - again he had the $$$$ to hire whoever he wanted as OC or DC and instead brought in his favorite two duds out of some sort of loyalty.
    • Deciding we would be a power running / play action team
      • Only to reverse course a year later and announce we are a HUNH spread team again
      • Furthering 4 + years of offensive non-identity and confusion
      • And then have to demote 2 people and have to promote some nobody to OC to call plays in the middle of a season.
      • This is just a continuation of Mack's mis-management of football resources within this state.
At the time any of us from the cheap seats could see these were not the best decisions. But we put the faith in him to know what he is doing. It turns out we knew better than our $5 million a year coach.

Just a few more wins, and Charlie would be good to go... decisions like these are the difference between a few Wins and Losses. A few wins and losses is the difference between losing the locker room and the fans.

And so the overall culture war that he was starting to win is lost. Shame.

The next guy is going to reap the rewards of Charlie's efforts. And in the words of Mack "And that's fair"
