Texas and OU Joining the SEC

Why doesn't Texas (and/or OU) join the SEC? Is the SEC afraid to let them join? Something else? Is this even a plausible possibility? Why or why not?

IMHO this should be a NONBFN response! NONBFN = Not Only No But F... No!
That conference is OVERRATED and filled with cheats and liars!

I feel we need to expand our conference and create a championship game though. If we don't expand we need to explore our options in other conferences.
What would help most of all is WINNING!

I think the SEC is the most natural conference for us, but we'll never get in. One reason is that I'm pretty sure aggy can block us like Florida blocks State and SCarolina blocks Clemson. They'd never agree to let us in. We blew it back in 2010.

As far as SEC being overrated and a conference of cheaters, six national championships in a row! And everybody but us cheated in the old SWC. It's just part of college football.

Just wait until OU and Ok St go to the SEC. Then we will see what screwed really looks like.

SEC or Big ten would be better than going west. I hate the idea of joining the Pac10.
Playing the worst SEC team Vanderbilt would result a great trip to Nashville versus traveling to eastern Washington and eastern Oregon to play Washington State and Oregon State.
Think about playing at Ol Miss in the Grove versus playing Cal and getting travel through Oakland. The trips to SEC and Big 10 are far superior to the trips to Pac 10.
Also, the Big 10 and SEC would bring fans to Austin. The only downside would be having to play aggy again.
In a dream scenario, adding Notre Dame and BYU to the Big 12 and having a championship game would be the best.

Publicly suggesting we are joining the SEC would probably get Perrin, Fenves and McRaven all canned.

Let's focus on getting back to being competitive in our own little conference before we start thinking of joining another one.

FYI...Oregon State is in Corvallis which is about 85 miles south of Portland on I-5. So, it's in western Oregon instead of eastern Oregon. Getting to Washington State would be the most difficult of all the Pac-12 schools.

Oakland has a very nice airport these days so not sure what the complaint is there.

To each his own. Personally, I would rather spend time in most of the Pac-12 cities than those where SEC schools are located.

With the current state of the football program, I'm not sure we'd be in any more favorable position in either the SEC or the Pac-12.

Listen to Joe. In addition to the ones being canned a large number of the academic faculty would quit.

The SEC is a sewer filled with sewer rats.

I think only three universities in the SEC have membership in the AAU.
Florida, Vandy, A&M. Correct me on that if I'm mistaken. Is Missouri? Not sure. Maybe.

This week's AP Poll has two Big 12 teams in the Top 3.
SEC has no teams in the Top 5.
SEC and BigXII both have 3 teams in this week's Top 10. (OU #10).

Baylor would boat race any team in the SEC right now.
TCU would give them fits.. both teams probably put up 45 on any SEC team.
Baylor might do it by half time.

It's not yet fully evident, but the run for the SEC is over.
For one, the league has no quarterbacks across the board.
I doubt anyone in the country can name one. Locally we know what's-his-name Allen at A&M. Not sure his first name.

The past two years the offenses played today have moved past the SEC.
The tide (sic!) has already turned.
Even the ACC is moving up, while the SEC is trending steady as she goes.
    And so on.

The future, no one knows. Not even me. But the SEC had it's day. The playing field is leveling out. One thing that helps, is being in a conference where you can actually land a plane at the home town of the team.

I think I tend to agree the SEC might be trending down. However, that may just make it easier for aggy to make a run. That said, Kyle Allen played like the real deal this past Saturday, so they may have at least one QB in the SEC.

SEC has four AAU schools. A&M, Vandy, Florida and Mizzou.

I agree with stanhin. We need to get our program back and competing for championships. Then we can look at options, but those may not be there long.

Seems to me most posters around here have bemoaned, rightfully so, the media love fest with the SEC. We generally think the SEC fanbase groupthink is odd, at best. So, why in the hell would we want to join, as someone said, that cesspool of a conference? Do we want to be like A&M now? Will we, too, put conference ahead of Texas like those morons do with their school?

We have made fun of the SECSECSEC!!! for years now, and now some of us want to join them? For crissakes....

These are athletic conferences. Academic standing doesn't mean dick. Vandy's academic reputation is not affected one bit by being a member of the SEC, and ours wouldn't be either.

If we are going to move, I'd prefer PAC (larger number than 10) first, (Formerly) Big 10 second, SEC (who knows how big) third...

PAC 12 to PAC 16 makes more since, Texas, TTU, OU and OSU would add to Arizona, Arizona St, Colorado and Utah to be the Pac 16 East division. That makes 7 games in the same time zone or 1 hour difference. Add 3 NC games would leave two games a year vs the Pac 16 West and a 2 time zone difference.

The academic standing of the Pac 16 would be so superior to the academics of the SEC .

I am prouder of my diploma from The University of Texas than of any of our National Championships.

Why should UT and OU help improve the SEC? I would prefer the PAC 12.

We fit in much better with the PAC than the SEC, but we would no longer be the big dogs. Texas and OU would be playing in USC and UCLA's conference. We would be 2 of 16 (really more like 2 of 6 or 7), instead of the 2 programs that matter. That made more sense when we were on top of the world and calling all the shots in the Big 12. Maybe it's time to let Baylor and TCU inherit the B 12. They could bring in Tulsa or Louisville or whoever the hell they wanted. We'd be playing Zona and Zona State, OU, TT, OSU... I've kind of talked myself into it. Let's go to the PAC, assuming they still want us.

Not for long though. They still have to travel to Austin and Norman occasionally, and the game trips would be awesome!

I hate bait headlines like this that look like the person is making it look like they're claiming it's happening, when instead they're just wondering why it doesn't. I just wasted 30 seconds.
