I need to hear from my fellow Horn Fans who still back this team like me!

The unknown factor thus far is at what point does the experience unleash something inside the team as a whole and they just get it. One meaning is that they suddenly get in sync with the game.

Watching the games it appears every player is a half-step out of place as if the game is 1 or 2 seconds off-set from their universe. While the other players are in just the right spot everywhere, all the time. It's as if the game for Texas started 1.5 seconds too soon, or too late, and we never get in sync. The whole game.

That's a mechanical explanation, or description. More realistically it's going on in the mind. Body follows mind, which includes attitude. At some point the speed of the mind and game, and seeing it as a whole instead of fragmented parts... joins together and it all come into focus. Seems to me that's what needs to happen.

I have no idea how that acclimation (acclimatization) comes about. Things I have done in my life... it happens after a certain amount of experience.

If it were me, I'd take the day off and go to The Martian movie. It's about survival and team work. At some point I don't how practice will help. Maybe the whole program is trying too hard. Let go. Get loose. Trust... your instincts... become one with the game.. -- Obi Wan

IMHO #33 ran like a beast! He was averaging nearly 6 yards a carry!
As I said we are playing a lot of youngsters this year. Last year was a wash due to suspensions and such. Give the Team (players/coaches etc.) our full support!
Remember we are Texas! We are NOT AGGIE, sand Aggie or the criminal Christian schools. (Two Frog players charged with ROBBERY played against us)

I have been a Longhorn FAN/FANATIC since I was 4 years old in 1970. I have seen ups and downs and I will NEVER give up or speak disparagingly about our TEAM!

If you either read Andy Weir's book or saw the movie, you'd know that "get loose, trust your instincts" is not the message of the story. It celebrates logic and discipined planning vs romantic ideas of instincts. Problems are quantitaviely evaluated. Every option was calculated, simulated, and risk assessed. No one was asked for their instinct - they were asked for the math behind their idea and what could go wrong. And as opposed to "getting loose," everyone was pressed to their absolute limit.

The book was about applying science - the knowledge of science and the science of technology which has been mastered by everyone in the story through years of study and dedicated training. Watney applied his knowledge of botany and chemistry which was cultivated over a lifetime to methodically grow potatoes on Mars in a small farm with leftover materials. NASA engineers and scientists in Houston worked non-stop for months going through millions of calculations to calculate interplanetary flight plans to save fuel and time for a rescue mission. It's about the commander of the mission taking responsibility for mistakenly leaving Watney on Mars.

The whole point of the story is "There is no excuse for failure. Do your job. When there is a problem, gather data, assess it, and formulate a plan. If you have an idea, we will simulate it 1,000 times to see if it will kill Watney. When we finalize the rescue plan we will drill until we can execute it perfectly with our eyes closed. And then we'll drill some more."

So LSC, ironically I might agree with you on this one. This might be exactly what they need to get into their heads. The coaches should have their own private screening so they can have some private self-reflection.

I just keep saying the Mighty have fallen but the thing with the Mighty is they ALWAYS rise up again. I have NO DOUBT in my mind that we will be in our rightful place - ranked and competitive again soon. These things are cyclical and the down years SUCK but the up years always make up for it.

I'm still in, but after suffering through yesterday's game, I'm going fishing next weekend, not to Dallas.

    All

Have just been browsing through several Longhorn sites today and it was very refreshing to see this thread...because all the others are so negative, depressing and demoralizing.

I know what we are going through right now is not fun, but I have been watching and cheering for the horns since 1961 (my freshman year at UT). I think it helps if you keep things in the proper perspective.

I have seen a lot of college football in that time, some bad, some mediocre, but most of it was pretty damn good.

One thing I learned a long time ago was that when we move from a coaching legend (and I do consider both Darrell Royal and Mack Brown to be in that category), to a new coaching regime it usually takes some time and possibly several coaching regimes (hopefully not the case this time as I really do like what Charlie Strong represents and feel that he represents the University well in that regard) to get back in that groove.

I remember when Darrell Royal won our first National Championship and immediately followed it with 3-4 years of mediocrity (Darrell was under a lot of pressure at that time). Darrell stated in retrospect that he really did not know how to handle the distractions and demands on his time away from football as a result of that National title. He said that it got to the point where he was traveling and speaking at various events (award dinners, coaching clinics, etc.) almost every week and lost contact with the direction and administration of the football program until he realized he had to say no to many people and keep the program focused. I think that had a lot to do with Mack Brown's demise.

I also recall telling many of my friends who were also Longhorn fans that we should be careful about what we were wishing for (new coaching regime) because we might get it and if we did I recall it took a little more than 20 years to find that magic again (from 1976 when Darrell retired to 1998 when Mack came on board).

Well, we got the new coaching regime and now we have to decide if we are going to support that regime through the tough times of culture change and administration change...or are we going to throw it in the trash bin and start over again (which may lead to a repeat in another 3-4 years and starting over again).

I think Charlie Strong has the makings of a potentially outstanding team in our Sophomores, Red Shirt Freshmen and true Freshmen classes...if he gets the support and commitment he and the football program deserve.

He has recruited some truly outstanding leadership and still needs some additional pieces (primarily in the offensive and defensive lines). I recently saw Shane Buechele play and I will tell you this young man is the real deal (not just from a talent aspect but also from a maturity & leadership aspect) and only enhances the future outlook. He may very well be to the offense what Jefferson has been to the defensive side.

We should all realize that these are mostly very young men (several of our starters on offense and defense were in high school only 4-5 months ago...they are going to make mistakes...but as they mature both physically and mentally they are going to get better...a lot better and they are going to learn and grow (relative to the game and as individuals)...we have all been there, maybe not on the football field, but in our own personal lives and challenges.

So what they really need now is a lot of support and appreciation of their efforts. Can each of us even imagine being their age and having such high expectations and then when something goes wrong being publicly criticized and often verbally brutalized?

I feel that The University of Texas, our football team and our coaching staff need to know that we expect results, but we also understand the challenges, the learning process and appreciate their efforts...the results we all desire will come if we give it enough time to germinate.

So I applaud the theme of this thread...count me as fully supportive but still expecting a lot more...I think realistically next year is the first year we should expect to see this team begin to improve and develop some maturity and leadership.

    Just my perspective,

    Hook 'Em

Here's a perspective I put on another thread, but belongs here... so abbreviated to just the opening lines over there....

Regardless of what has happened and been witnessed ... the team is having to evolve in tough circumstances, and surely must be trying the patience and fortitude of Strong and all the coaches and players.

    AP Poll out 4-Oct
    http://espn.go.com/college-football...ogs-baylor-bears-pass-michigan-state-spartans

Two weeks ago Texas lost chance for OT with comeback 4th quarter,
against current AP #23 Cal (5-0)

Week ago gave up a game-tying FG late, then muffed a punt to allow a late FG
    cost a game against present AP #21 Ok-State (5-0)

Saturday got shell-shocked and bombed into submission by
    now AP #2 TCU (5-0)

This coming Saturday will face current AP #10 Oklahoma (4-0)

Current AP #14 Notre Dame (Texas' opening season road loss) just lost to new AP #6 Clemson, so the four teams Texas has lost to are all ranked, with a combined record of 19-1, that loss to a Top 10 team.

Charlie's second season picked one helluva schedule to still be figuring things out in his second season following 6-7 year. And playing a couple dozen freshmen, many starting.

Still to play, present AP #3 Baylor (4-0, and I think national leader in offense)
And no-slouch unranked Texas Tech... lost on tipped ball to TCU.

"that which does not kill me makes me strong" --- The possibility of that, is not ruled out.

I always have and always will support team and never root for them to lose. I do think that they need to give Strong an opportunity to turn this around. With that sad there is nothing wrong with people being honest about the issues that they see in the program and it doesn't mean that they are fair-weather or that they don't support the team. The team is in crisis right now and everyone has a right to offer a take on what they think the problems are and how they think that the problems should be assessed and dealt with.

Every time we strap it on and go to war, I back our Horns 100%. However, for the remaining 6 days of the week my thoughts are on what's best for the program to succeed and if changes need to be made.

Charlie Strong has shown me through 18 games he is not the upper echelon type of head coach who will lead us back to national prominence. Even in 2017 when he finally has all HIS guys with experience, he and his ragtag staff will still be out-coached by superior Big 12 coaching, and top out at 9-3 at best.

Texas is not in the Aggy business of claiming national prominence with a 9-3 Manziel like season that accomplished nothing in the way of a conference title.

I'd rather cut bait after this season, land a splash hire and real staff with talent and innovation, and see how far they can take us after a year behind them in 2017. I already see Strong's ceiling at this higher level, and it's not up to Texas football standards.

That being said, when we face OU next week I'm all in just as always.

I back the team. I will always back the players. My issues are with the guys that are charged with getting them ready to play and putting them in a position to win. The players carried out the game plan which was (or has been) obviously flawed.
