You are not alone. If one "settles" for anything that means the fight is gone. Once the fight is gone the slippery slope gets steeper, and one's value is less than one would ever admit.

Texas has a history of making bad choices following brilliant choices. Bible (a known quantity at the hire), Cherry Royal and Brown (both relative unknowns' at hire) were absolute brilliant hires. Akers was ok; McWilliams (unfortunately) and Mackovic were not. Strong the man is an absolute keeper; Strong the coach has some issues that are not getting better. If Texas comes out and lays down on Saturday like they did against ND and TCU (there was no fight in from Texas either of those games), Strong may not be recoverable. In that case keeping him around for another year with a completely new assistant staff probably would not be fair to him or Texas. (Didn't really work for Brown and has not worked for South Carolina through several staff turnovers). Hard judgement after what will be 6 games into only the second year, but with what is at stake for Texas hard decisions have to be made.

Perrin may be only an interim, but I believe he has the mandate and support to do what he feels is necessary.

Swinney keeps winning. I wanted him before we hired this joke of a coach. Fire Strong tomorrow and start shopping for a winner.

I think we at least get Strong to take a look at Miami's offer and see if it's worth his time. He might consider it with a pay cut at this point. There's too much stress here for him to face the cameras every week and say "we got to play better." In Miami, at least there's South Beach to take football off of everyone's minds.

I don't disagree but there are probably several other established programs that could say the exact same thing. Like every other enterprise it ultimately a people business, and it's very hard to get the magic mix of talent and opportunities to come together in the perfect way for something like that.

For $5 million a year I'll face the press and say,"We gotta play better." every freaking week. Strong isn't going anywhere unless he is fired.

....and why would Miami want him now ????

Perrin probably has no say here but this guy should not be allowed to finish the year. We need to have a coach in place to recruit as soon as his season ends at his current job.

It wont ever happen, but I can still dream ..... that some day the UT powers-that-be will say, "screw it, we are sick of mediocre, 'feel-good-stories,' and we are going to hire a stone cold killer."

    11,

Your name is a larger number than the number of money people that actually give a damn about that team. How do you tell a successful convict fan? He owns more than one tattoo parlor. So, the only people he has to please in Dade County are the administration, who stupidly pay to play at Joe Robbie when they can't fill a HS stadium.

    54,

The convicts want Strong because NO ONE else will take the job. They haven't been able to hire one of their first ten choices since Jimmy Johnson. Butch Davis had the job less than two weeks before he was looking for a way out. Randy Shannon took the job when they couldn't get any of their first 25+ to even talk to them.

Don't go aggy; what upper level coach is going to be free at the end of the season? If Texas has to pay off Strong that will be $15 mil out of Texas' bank account. Is there $17.5+ sitting around in the Athletic Department to spend this December?

Herman is about the best Texas could hope for.

I actually think this may be plausible. I do think that Miami would be interested at the right price and, UT might be willing to kick in part of the salary for the remainder of Strong's contract here. For Strong, he and his family could leave this pressure cooker graciously and return to his old stomping ground. Basically it would be a soft landing for him and a win for Miami and Texas.

    Viper,

Sorry, but I could not disagree with you more, unless your post was TIC. "Stop the embarrassment" money is always available in large amounts. You are correct that the number of quality coaches "available" now or in December/January is very limited. That said, anyone we would want is not "available". Like Saban, you go get them, without any kickback kings, who I submit to you are far worse than street agents.

    I think you mean, 3 - 9.

A friend who has a 30+ year streak of attending all Texas football games (so he's seen a bunch of them) says he thinks Strong may, indeed, not win another one this year. Surely he can beat Kansas at home . . . .
